Many children taken by Americans not orphans

Many children in Haiti case are not orphans - Haiti earthquake- msnbc.com

update: what do you think of this? i think these missionaries have gone too far.

Sounding shadier as the days go by.

My gut feeling is that these so-called Christians intended to place these kids into the homes of "good Christian" families so they could raise these kids as "proper Christians".

It's time for Congress to launch an investigation into the practices of international adoption by US citizens and US agencies connected with it.

or, we could just let the missionaries rot in haiti.

So this all caused by missionaries? Maybe they are going to far in helping the Haitian people all these years as well.
if that's all they were about, why lie? to the "orphans" parents and to the police?

did you read the link?

It sounds like these missionaries had ulterior motives.

Who is 'we'? 'We' couldn't do anything to the missionairies in Haiti since they are there on their own dime. Nevertheless, these people are American taxpaying citizens, and therefore have all the rights protected by the Constitution. So legally you have nothing to support your threat.

They committed their crime in Haiti, and thus are subject to the Haitian system of justice. I believe they should be charged with kidnapping. And, if they did the time, whatever their motives, I believe they should do the crime.

I guess I'm kind of a law & order girl. But then, as a conservative, I'd expect American to be, as well. ;)

The US Constitution does not extend to Haiti. These Americans are at the mercy of the Haitian authorities.

I'd hate to be in their shoes.

Given the fact that "missionairies" have been providing all the help for all these years, doesn't give you the right to denegrate them because suddenly a new crisis there popped up on the MSM radar. If these were Obamanites I'm sure liblady would be promoting all kinds of excuses for them.

They are entitled to all the protection the US govt can provide.

Earning trust is an essential element in any con game.

You are so quick to take the word of a corrupt government that has kept these folks in poverty for decades, merely for political games.

I'm suggesting that if a person commits a crime, being a missionary doesn't excuse them from it.

And frankly, I don't give a crap if they're liberals or conservatives, hindus, muslims, Christians or atheists. They stole children from their families and attempted to export them to the U.S.

That is criminal conduct.

Isn't this confirmed by U.S. forces, who are doing most of the work on the ground, and the statements of the children themselves?

They haven't even been charged yet, what crime?

Which isn't much, if any at all.

Get a clue - US law does not protect private US citizens traveling abroad in other sovereign nations. There at the mercy of the host nation.

What are you talking about?

From the OP article:

Laurentius Lelly, a 27-year-old computer technician, said he gave up his two children, ages 4 and 6, because Silsby had previously visited the area and earned people's trust.

Lelly said he is no longer so sure about her trustworthiness, and said he was worried the Haitian judicial system would fail to properly investigate the case. No Haitian police or social welfare investigators have visited the village since the Americans were arrested at the border, the parents said.

"I would like to find out if these people were really going to help the kids or were trying to steal them," Lelly said.

Dude, you get a clue okay? What I said is true, and haven't disputed the laws of other nations....you implied that. The Haitian govt is a bunch of crooks, and these people haven't been charged of anything.

Who cares if they're a bunch of crooks. These missionaries are still at their mercy. Maybe they should've thought about that before going there.

Americans should think twice before visiting countries with corrupt governments.

Not to mention, there are procedures for removing children from their home country. Even after an earthquake, you're a dumbass if you don't follow them.

Who is actually so stupid as to attempt to take a busload of children out of a country without some kind of paperwork or documentation? Seriously.

They should be incarcerated for stupidity...except, unfortunately, that's not a chargeable offense.

i'm not suggesting WE do anything to them. that would be the perogative of the haitians, wouldn't it? and as far as i know, our constitutional rights mean diddly squat in haiti.

i never made any kind of a threat, you should reread my post.
