Top uniformed officer: Gay ban should be lifted

He should have kept his mouth shut as the others had. Once the gates are open, it will change and cause tensions... guaranteed. Look at what tensions it causes in everyday life.

Kept his mouth shut? So, you subscribe to the idea that gays in the military should lie about who they are? This sounds like how whites used to talk about blacks.

The truth is this stupid law has never been followed as it was intended. Most of those discharged did not out themselves. I heard a Lt Colonel last night talk about how a civilian outted him. Do you think a Lt Col will be missed? Do you think he can easily be replaced?

So, which causes more trouble? To keep them or to kick them out?

This is the 21st century. Evolve people.

You don't have what it takes to clean the boots of those sticking their necks out to defend and protect pathetic ********* like you.

.

Wow ..I rate 9 asterisks ..how cool is that

I am still waiting for you to explain this

DADT has done much more to hurt the military than help it.

Already done replying to someone else.

Yes, but they've been there. If 4 star Generals are coming out supporting getting rid of this piece of **** law that is impressive. And now it will get done.
Well I smell politics, we will see.

Destabilized region; terrorist haven; thousands of dead innocents; dishonoring our fallen warriors.

We destabilized the region when we overthrew the Iraqi government, terrorists already had a haven there, tens of thousands of innocents are dead as a result of our intervention, and you don't honor fallen warriors by increasing their ranks with actions that get more of our warriors killed.

The military is not a democracy. If the top Generals say get rid of it, and they do, it will be gotten rid of.

Translation: I only care about Generals when they agree with me.

Don't act dumb with me. You were in the Marines, right? If the top General gives an order tell me, how many have to obey him? I'll save you the embarassment... ALL OF THEM! It never matters what all the underlings vote is. The two top dogs want that law repealed. So, repealed it will get.

I think Generals have a better concept of what's going on than you give them credit for. Also they have the big picture in mind.

Generals have very very little interaction with the regular troops and the ones they do talk to or see have been prepped and are on ther best behavior and will not give thier honest opinion if is not what they think the general wants to hear. I would be willing to say that most of them have very little idea what the troops are feeling exspecially if they were not enlisted first.

Yes. Keep his mouth shut. That is what don't ask, don't tell is about. If we don't know, we don't care.

Evolve? Why don't you evolve to understand men in close quarters might not appreciate being confined with individuals that see them as potential sexual partners. It creates an unneeded tension. It could get people killed.

The military is not a social experiment. Keep it to yourself if you want to serve. Is it asking too much?

Further, if DADT is lifted, watch what comes next. The floodgates open, next comes the flood. You'll get all manner of Patty Schroeder type ingrates crapping all over the military.

.PS. To the moron that made the comment about military honor. If you can't figure out what the 9 asterisks are, here's a hint f*c*h*a*s.

My point went right over your head. Too bad...

I don't care what it says, I was just honored that I rated 9 asterisks. That's pretty cool in and of itself. Do you know any words that rate 10 or more asterisks. I'd be right proud to get some of them

Even Colin Powell supports the end of this policy. When the people who backed the policy are saying it is time to end it, doesn't that say something?

You are totally misrepresenting what he said. He did NOT say he supports the end of the policy. He said he supports the efforts of the DOD to re-assess the policy. Here it is in his own words:

You are behind the times. That is what he said Feb 1. This is what he said Feb 3.

Powell said in a statement. "I fully support the new approach presented to the Senate Armed Services Committee this week by Secretary of Defense Gates and Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."

Apparently, someone wasn't paying attention on Tuesday.

You're so emotionally invested in this issue that see only what you want to see. A little honesty would be appreciated.

Gates said, in the article YOU linked, no less...

...rushing into it, mandating it by fiat with a very short time line would be a serious mistake.

It's obvious that they want to consult the military before making any decisions. That's what Powell and Gates have both said, that is, they will repeal DADT IF the military is on board. You seem to think they are ready to abolish it without conducting a serious analysis first.

Why would he do that?

Because he thinks they should reassess the policy. That's not the same thing as wanting to abolishing it immediately.

Yeah, it means a minority of two believe it. Not that numbers mean anything, as a minority of two can be correct, but I don't believe these guys are.

When DADT was thrust upon the military, that was supposedly the end of it, and it was against the wishes of the military leadership.

If it's ever repealed... Patty Schroeder types will come out of the wood work and create a hell amongst the troops. It will be politically motivated by those that despise the military.

It will cost lives. The lives of Americans.
