Top uniformed officer: Gay ban should be lifted

Your right on the mark but, you forgot who they have to serve with meaning eat, sleep, train, fight together. On screw up and the homosexual references will be brought up with those who they serve with as being the cause. The desention amongst the ranks, distrust, predijuce, hatred etc. Then the next thing you know we have FF/frag in the field.

No you won't. You should learn about the military before you insult the fine people who serve.

Its real big of all you lefties who are not serving dictate to the people who are serving......No skin off your ass........you guys should all join.......you might change your mind on the issue..........

For the record, I'm currently serving on active duty. Here's how I see it:

At the small unit level in the Army, we are anticipating the change in policy. I doubt that it effects us very seriously in our day-to-day operations in CONUS or deployed.

I personally have never known any Soldier to be discharged under DADT. I do think there are gay servicemembers serving now and they know to keep it quiet. Will they "come out" if the policy is overturned? I doubt it, but I could be wrong.

I currently command a 110 man unit (all males); if DADT is done away with, I'll simply inform my troops that the same EO policies that exist now prohibiting racist and sexist remarks also apply to gays. No big deal.

I really don't care either way, but if the Brits and IDF can pull it off, then I doubt it will be that earth-shattering for us. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

First off thank you for current serving our country. And I believe that if DADT were overturned your example should be the way it is handled. It is reasonable and tells your soldiers that you will not tolerate any such action against their fellow troops.

Enlisted people make decisins all the time........They are the ones the policy affects....they should have a say in it................

When I served, enlisted had absolutely no say in policy-making.

But, if what the enlisted think about gays in the military is of concern:

"Results of an Internet poll released Tuesday show most serving in the military approve of working with openly gay service members.

The Washington, D.C., and New York City-based Zogby International Poll revealed 73 percent of military members are comfortable with gays."

Poll: Most Troops Support Gays in Military | Palm Center

I served openly gay, along with several others, and no one cared. The people who do care are the minority.

I say, the Admiral's premise is flawed. No one is "lying about who they are". It's don't ask don't tell, no one is lying about who they are because no one is asking. Seems easy to follow, Hell, it should just be common sense. You do know how easy it is to get shot if your cameo is rainbow colored.

All I can say is that you better not be openly gay if captured in Afghanistan. They have a different view on things over there.

LOL..served for ten years USMC...ACTIVE duty. You should ask before assuming. Your right they are fine people but, I also know what happens to military personnel when they are discovered as being homosexual..

And yet they are already serving with homosexuals. You know, eating with homosexuals, showering with homosexuals, making dick jokes infront of homosexuals. It seems like you assume that DADT has kept homosexuals out of the military, and now open service is going to bring everything crashing down....
Yes they probably are, but most keep it to themselves and those who don't usually get beat when caught alone. I have stood with my ExCO/SNCO's in quite a few Court Martial in this regard against those who have been caught for both assaulting a homosexuals and those being caught as a homosexuals.
