White House to paint grim fiscal picture: source

The Great Depression certainly required deficits of this magnitude.

No, it didn't.

The Great Depression required the government that created the problem to get the **** out of the way.

All FDR managed to do was smash the recovery and create a recession inside a government created depression, and his failures lasted a full decade.

oh, that's easy enough.

The Constitution does not allow the federal government to do anything about "health care", ergo, the government should spend ZERO dollars on "health care" and the government's liability for same will be ZERO, and thus "health care" will not contribute to the federal government's deficit and the non-existent problem is solved.

That isn't politically realistic. Some of us are looking for actual solutions to the problem rather than braying about how things would be in Ronpaultopia. :2wave:

Okay I gotta give ya some credit for Ronpaultopia. LOL! And I admit I like Paul. But that was funny.

I'm gonna steal that and use it.

Actually we did have some stimulus in 2008 and it was far from a regular year, but to address your point:

How'd that work out?

Oh, wait, it didn't work at all. Hell, it didn't even serve it's primary purpose of getting a Republican elected.

And you people think the Messianic Stimuli are going to save the Democrats come November.

Since the "problem" is the government's refusal to obey it's most basic law, forcing the government to obey the Constitution is, in fact, the solution to the problem.

Since "healthcare" isn't a problem for the federal government only retards and greedy fools want to give the government the power to interfere in health care.

You should call the cops on them. Since it's the law, the cops should be able to arrest them.

How would you explain the fact that when FDR caved into the idea to reduce the defecit, by reducing government spending, the economy went deeper into a recession?

BTW, if FDR obeyed the constitution in 1941, we might be speaking german right now.

The Constitution does mention General Welfare which would include healthcare..

The Constitution doesn't cover Rebuilding Nations, ergo the government should tell Iraq to rebuild themselves.

The Constitution doesn't cover welfare to other Nations thus the Govt should tell Israel to piss off.

The nation was going to go into further depression anyway, since FDR was stealing gold and destroying farm produce (while people in cities were going hungry) to maintain prices.

Explain how destroying wealth creates wealth.

Subsidizing health care is interfering? We probably would not have the level of care we have today if the government did not heavily subsidize health care. Of course that also is what contributes to the rising cost, more people using it and more people living longer.

People who aren't ignorant spend the time to learn that the words "general welfare" are not a blank check.

The Constitution doesn't cover Rebuilding Nations, ergo the government should tell Iraq to rebuild themselves.

Works for me.

The Constitution doesn't cover welfare to other Nations thus the Govt should tell Israel to piss off.

Works for me.

So you're wrong on the most important issue, right on two others.

Work on it, and someday you might become an American, if you can get rid of those silly socialist ideas of yours.

We got into the Depression because of Repubs and their under regulations. Hoover had a hands off approach that caused more damage. Off you and those like you want a similar hands off approach after its been proven to fail.

Why don't you ever answer my questions?

Edit:

FDR was taking gold because people were hoarding it. Now we have a federal program to help guard against problems like this, called FDIC.

What's the answer I'm looking for....?

YES!

The government subsidized college tuition, so now no one can afford to go to college without their Big Brother in government "helping" them. Wasn't that nice of the government, to do that to us...er for us?

We probably would not have the level of care we have today if the government did not heavily subsidize health care.

You used the word "probably".

We'd have better care today if people weren't addicted to making someone else pay for their care.

It's amazing what people will do for themselves that they won't do if they're resting in a hammock. I mean, if people had to support their own lives, they'd probably stop voting for socialists like the Messiah and His empty promises.

Since the Constitution does not authorize the federal government to interfere in health care, your arguments are moot. The federal government is currently in violation of the law.

That's a stupid ignorant statement.

The Depression was caused by Woodrow Wilson and the Federal Reserve.

When you learn enough history to admit this fact, come back.

Are you kidding? More people are going to college now than before, one reason is because of government subsidy.

And....yes, ohmigod, didn't I say people can't afford to go to college unless they have Big Brother Government helping them?

Explain why I should pay for someone to go to school to learn "political science" or "photography". It simply does not put money in my pocket.

You are aware, aren't you (probably not) that because of the government subsidies college tuitions have grown steadily at a rate three to four times that of inflation annually over the last twenty-five years, right?

But the students graduating are dumber and dumber every year. Clearly wasted money.

I'd like to address this if I could. The Constitution does mention "General Welfare" but where I think that liberals, or I should say "Progressives" confuse the issue is that that clause was never meant to be a catch all for anything, and everything that the people wanted to vote themselves from the Treasury. When that happens then the society, and the nation dies.

Instead the enumerated powers specifically laid out by Article 1, Section 8 are what Congress can vote to spend on. What we have now with all this subjective interpretation of the founding document, that is written out in plain English, and understandable is the fundamental changing of the country.

What if half the people don't want the country fundamentally changed in this manner? That is the message I believe was sent in the MA special election BTW. Do they count? Or, is it now a tyranny of the simple majority?
