I bet if John Edwards was a no name republican his affair would have been big news and so would this story.

Edwards admits he fathered videographer's child
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has finally come forward to admit that he is the father of a child born to a videographer he hired before his second White House bid. "It was wrong for me to ever deny she was my daughter," he said Thursday.

Edwards released a statement to The Associated Press after long denying that he'd fathered a child during an affair with Rielle Hunter. The admission comes shortly before a book on the scandal is due out from a former campaign aide who was expected to describe how Edwards worked to hide his paternity.

"I am Quinn's father," the former senator declared in his statement, as the second birthday of Frances Quinn Hunter approaches.

A lawyer for Hunter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It is not clear where she is living.

Frances was born Feb. 27, 2008, indicating that the child was conceived in the middle of 2007, several months after Hunter stopped working for Edwards. John and Elizabeth Edwards renewed their wedding vows in July of 2007 to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.

A former Edwards aide, Andrew Young, initially claimed paternity of the child shortly before the 2008 presidential primary contests began. Young is scheduled to release a book on Feb. 2 that details the scandal.

Elizabeth Edwards, whose cancer returned in an incurable form in March 2007, has stood by her husband despite the affair. She has said that it does not matter to her whether her husband fathered a child with Hunter, saying, "that would be a part of John's life, but not a part of mine."

Since admitting the affair in August 2008, John Edwards has largely gone into seclusion. He has acknowledged a federal investigation into his campaign finances while both Young and Hunter—with her child—have made appearances at a federal courthouse in Raleigh.

In the statement Edwards released Thursday, he said, "I will do everything in my power to provide her (Frances) with the love and support she deserves. I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace."

Edwards also said, "It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me."

WTF is with these moronic politician wives staying with cheaters? I swear all the hairspray makes them stupid.

Now that he's done his mea culpa, he is 100% rehabilitated and ready to run in 2012.

My bet, if Democrat history is consistent... he'll be their next nominee for President.

.

You read about it, did you not?

How does a token mention change the fact that had it been any republican the liberal media would have been all over that story like a fat man in a all you can eat buffet?

By which variety of second sight do you "know" this? The **** hit the fan last year, it's now an old tired story with no new information. Who but partisan hacks would think it significant?

Maybe in this case, her health has something to do with it? Also, she has been ill for a while. For all we know, their sexual relationship was zilcho, and she almost understood his looking elsewhere? I had a cousin who actively rejected her husband sexually for at least a year, if not more. He ended up looking elsewhere. Could I blame him? No.

Hi baby. :kissy:

I'll take that bet Zimmer.

This is kind of old news!

This hit the fan a couple of years ago. It means nothing, to me at least anymore.

Wow... Edwards turns out to be a closet republican afterall. :rofl

He may need to see your price sheet? ;)

You know, TOJ, you can be funny when you want to be.

You haven't been around here lately. Taking care of yours and Edwards's baby? ;)

I guess you don't own a TV, because this was all over the news today!

So, WTH are you talking about--not a Big Story?

Of course, no word yet on the Larry Craig announcement where he comes clean about his sexual indiscretions.

No, I simply think we have all become jaded as for this sterotypical story for yet another politician.
It takes something very extreme sexually to get our attention anymore. Just garden variety playing with a staff assistant just doesn't get it. One needs to have a tryst with a prostitute, celeb, same sex, or donkey to get the spotlight it seems.

Am sorry that you just can't get enough juice on this one James but I am certain somewhere some donkey is going to get the courage to talk to Dateline's Chris Hansen soon.

Part of me see's Edwards 10 years in the future, a manager of a Piggly Wiggly, though still making some side money on radio and local television stations for political comment. Another part of me sees Edwards actually running for Congress and winning... which would be a shame. Now that he's outed as a true blue liar and cheater - I mean the honeymoon is over isn't it? Doesn't a politician at least have to have a have a facade of being credible? His is gone for good I think. Piggly Wiggly wouldn't be bad though... it'd be steady work and someone has to order the produce.

It takes a few years but in politics you can be a dog and return years later with a new image. Remember McCain and his crippled first wife when he met Cindy. Americans have short attention spans.

I agree it's possible... but don't you think it's harder these days with so much information being on the internet and documented electronically? I mean... McCain's was still dug up during 2008 but it wasn't well known nor remembered, but now... this will never go away. I just think the chances are slimmer in 2010 than say 1972 or even 1990.
