Liberal talk-radio network Air America to cease operations

That's like asking if talk radio or TV opinion shows should have a conservative slant. It's a meaningless question; they are what they are, not what you think they "should" be. There is nothing preventing a conservative from starting a newspaper or a liberal from starting a talk radio channel, other than financial viability. Different groups of people prefer to get their news/ideas from different sources. Nothing wrong with that.

From my own perspective, I never listen to the radio and I rarely watch television. So something like Air America or Countdown With Keith Olbermann would be totally wasting their money trying to appeal to me. But apparently that format is very effective for the demographic Rush Limbaugh is targeting.

And may I congratulate our own character..here we Right wingers are...none of us working mind you....and we STILL don't want the government paying for our health care. Unselfish and honorable wouldn't you say? I mean DD...your argument here is that right wingers don't work....and yet support tax cuts for those that do....turn down government funded health care(we're the ones with no health care...right.....cause we're not working...right).

No. There are LOTS of conservatives that do work. They are just not the wackos that sit around all day listening to right-wing radio propoganda.

Are you trying to argue that every or most every conservatives listen to that crap? Sorry....there are a lot more conservatives out there than you are giving credit to.

I'm actually quite tolerate Zyph. I have a lot of respect for true conservatives in the Goldwater vein. I may not agree with them, but I have a lot of respect for them.

What I cannot respect are the fools that listen to idiots like Beck, Limbaugh, Savage etc...and then complain that everyone else is the source of their troubles. THAT is the rhetorics that the right-wing radio clowns espouse and they buy into it with their "victim" mentality.

No.....never said I "liked" them. I just respect them because they are focused on issues and are generally educated, even if I don't agree with them.

The same cannot be said of those who sit around listening to right-wing radio. (or left-wing radio for that matter)....Anyone who listens to that crap and thinks they are getting educated is a fool.

The biggest part of the problem is that most liberals don't have much of a sense of humor, and they get rather shrill. Of course, I don't find Glenn Beck all that funny, either, to be blunt. Funny looking, maybe. But clearly, conservatives are more easily amused than liberals. I enjoy watching him cry more than Tebow, though. I wish he cried more. Then I might watch him.

If you read carefully you would see that I said that there are many many many educated and smart conservatives. The wrong presumption that others were trying to argue is that they all listen to right-wing propoganda.
The reality is....most of the smart conservatives don't.

OK, I'm with you on the media. What about science and academia? Should they be politically biased in the way they teach or research, as they are?

Radio itself isn't being obsolete but the way it is provided is.

Younger people don't really listen to the radio. They listen to pre-selected playlists of music or pod-casts through their iPods or steam live online or through their phones. This opens the door to listen to any show anywhere.

I live in San Diego and I listen to a show that plays live in LA and and another that is in New York. You can't do that on Radio unless they are syndicated (which is rare).

It's like TV. Less and less people are watching shows as they are scheduled and opting in to watch them on demand through pre-recorded means (DVR, TiVo, Online streaming, etc.). In the near future we won't have to wait for shows to come on, we just have to wait for them to become available for adding to our play queue. Much like Netflix.

There is a big difference between disagreeing with political views, which applies in your case, and suckage, which applies to Air America's programming.
