US accused of 'occupying' Haiti as troops flood in

The worthless French moron who made the claim of "occupation" is nothing more than a useless, jealous, ignorant dumb-ass.

It's just typical clueless french behavior. Rremember ... this guy is a from a country that surrendered to Mickey Mouse during the opening pyrotechnics display at the opening of Euro-Disney in Paris.

Besides ... I do not see the French lifiting a finger to help Haiti.

Basically, he's a usless french idiot who needs to shut his trap.

He's not alone. Spending a week securing an airport while trapped and injured people die just outside is bad PR at best. It was a natural disaster, not a war, who is going to fight you? American foreign policy toward Haiti has been lamentable at best., with two previous invasions and 20 years occupation, a third invasion would surprise nobody.

There were no people at the opening at Euro-Disneyland. Shows what you know.:)

That takes a lot of gaul being said by a person from a country that bled Haiti and made it the third world country it is today.

Pun intended? :rofl

It's the same point he always makes. It's ALWAYS Obamas fault don't you know?

You mean its not always Bushs fault? Thats all I heard during the last 9 years was how everything is Bushs fault. Seems the shoe is on the other foot now.

Yes, and it's funny to watch people put the shoe on and eagerly walk around in it after they whined about it for 9 years.

Did you people read the same article I did? Because at no point does he say that the U.S. is trying to occupy the country. The article seems to be quite misleading and suggests a lot but doesn't have anything concrete.

And you base this on what? The RNC talking points memo? Or you nationalistic ego?

Dude, do us all a favor and take off that "centrist" label from your profile.

You aren't fooling anyone.

Its the French. The original slave owners of the island. Who cares what they say?

Because if we go ahead and colonize Haiti, we might be able to stop pouring money into a bottomless pit and start making a little money off the place for a change.

Sometimes your posts amaze me. Do you know what Haiti's only national resource is? Sugarcane, thats it. Please explain with the largest market "the US" set up to use high fructose corn syrup, what are the mostly poor people of Haiti to do? Sugar is not exactly a huge import anyplace.

The trend seems to be that we have to go in every few years, dumps millions of dollars to bail them out, only to allow them to run the country into the ground and have to do it all over again.

2004: Aristide is forced from office via a U.S.-assisted military coup. He is kidnapped, and flown out of Haiti aboard a U.S. military aircraft to South Africa. Boniface Alexandre is inaugurated as interim president.
September: Hurricane Jeanne kills over 700.

4 years later...

2008: September Hurricane Hanna leaves more than 500 dead. (I am not even including the massive amount of damage done by each hurricane.)
November: The Pétionville school collapse and the Grace Divine School collapse.

Just 2 years later...

2010: A major earthquake kills tens of thousands and causes massive damage to buildings and infrastructure in Port-au-Prince.

I am sorry man but a little history goes a long way.

Well, why is it "set up" to use corn syrup? Because of sugar price supports. That means sugar commands a higher price, which should be good for sugar producers.

Speaking of hurricanes, remember when Pat Robertson said God was going to send a hurricane to hit Disney World because of it's support for gays? The very next hurricane to hit land in the U.S. that season went almost right over Robertson's headquarters.

If they can grow sugar cane, why can't they make rum?......
I can't imagine why the U.S. bothers at all in Haitian affairs, there is nothing to be gained, that's for sure.....;)

Simple: Cut a deal with Cuba to start drilling the North Cuba Basin. Locate a refinery in Haiti. In addition, there are oil reserves in Haiti. We could encourage American companies to perform e&p operations in Haiti, thereby creating a larger job market in the country. Instead of Nike, or Matel relocating to China, the government could encourage them to relocate to Haiti.

Sometimes, it amazes me how some folks can't think outside the box.

I know we can only protect the country from mother nature. There aren't any natural events happening in Haiti that don't occur in the US. At least Haiti doesn't have massive tornado clusters, at least I don't think they do, anyway.

As far as the geo-political crap goes, that's just more reason to colonize the place.

It's insinuated right here.

"This is about helping Haiti, not about occupying Haiti," Mr Joyandet said.

10,000 troops in Haiti? God damn. That is a lot. I wonder how much food and water it takes every day to satiate those guys. So we only allow deadly force when it gets chaotic. But then in the same news report we admit that it is already chaotic.. So are we there using deadly force in any way now? Hell, even the Vatican now says sometimes stealing is ok. And I think they are referring to those who have NO food or any around them. How can you punish instinct and be on the right side at the same time?

Maybe the thing we are getting the most of from an "occupation" would be experience and further min/maxing our people control apparatus.

You have got to be kidding? It is set up that way to support American farming corporations. We are the only civilized country that forces it's use. Producing sugar costs less than using corn syrup.

It's not an "occupation" but who knows?

Outside of disaster (humanitarian aid) I agree. The US needs to mind it's own business.

Did you read my post? I said it infers and says nothing concrete. If I accused you of something I wouldn't say "This isn't about a murder, it is about providing help to the victim" when talking to you. Why? Because I would not be saying much in regards to whether you committed the murder now would I? Please learn to read articles properly.
