Iran Warns West It Will Make Its Own Nuclear Fuel - Iran | Map | News - FOXNews.com

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran warned on Saturday the West has until the end of the month to accept Tehran's counterproposal to a U.N.-drafted plan on a nuclear exchange, or the country will start producing nuclear fuel on its own.

The warning was a show of defiance and a hardening in Iran's stance over its controversial nuclear program, which the West fears masks an effort to make nuclear weapons. Tehran insists the program is only for peaceful, electricity production purposes and says it has no intention of making a bomb.

"We have given them an ultimatum. There is one month left and that is by the end of January," Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said, speaking on state television.

so how much longer are we(The US and Western Countries) going to let Iran get away with this BS? It's time to send a Cruise Missile on a Military target to let Iran know enough is enough and to go public that we will start to openly support any one who will over throw and replace this Government and the Mullahs.

I don't even recall them making a counterproposal to the one from the West a few months ago.

Their gov't is fracturing - hopefully, completely falling apart - so perhaps that is why they cannot make a deal.

It is the same problem from the summer - do you attack the military facilities, which might divert their resources away from attacking the protestors - but could cause the iranian nation to coalesce around the regime - or do you sit tight, and hope the protestors cause the regime to fall, and that something more rational and reasonable might take its place?

The UN is preparing to send a hotly worded message to Iran as we speak. Lacking that, they are willing to escalate the conflict to cocktail party snobbery.

Don't worry, Iran doesn't stand a chance.

Looks like they are calling the West's bluff.
Nothing will happen and once again the West will be made to look like the impotent fools they always have been.

This does not mean this regime will go out with a whimper. During these past six months, the Iranian regime has undergone a dramatic change of character. It has eliminated all pragmatic forces within its ranks. For religious support, they rely on a small but extremely radical group of ayatollahs such as Mesbah Yazde and Ahmad Janati. These are apocalyptic worshippers of the twelfth Imam, or Mahdi. Understanding this group is of the utmost importance for Western policymakers. The Mahdi is viewed as a Messiah-like figure whose return will bring peace on Earth. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad frequently refers to him in his speeches, including those held before the United Nations. While most twelver imam Shiites believe that the Mahdi will appear by his own accord, this radical group believes that his appearance can be triggered by creating the apocalyptic conditions necessary for his emergence. Iran's nuclear weapons program must be seen in this context. Ahmadinejad and the radical fringe group to which he belongs see themselves as the army of the Mahdi in his final jihad.

Absolutely right.

Iran knows Obama and the UN are political cowards on this issue. They can't even agree on real sanctions for Iran.

It will be interesting to see what excuse Obama has this time when he backs down from yet another promise.

Indeed.

I hope this is the case. We Irans current rules out of power. The ayetoiletbowl needs to be removed from office and thrust into prison (head first if possible) and Aminijihad, a known terrorist, needs to join him there (also head first ... like 20 times).
