WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats passed a landmark health care bill in a climactic Christmas Eve vote that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in the country's history.

The 60-39 vote on a cold winter morning capped months of arduous negotiations and 24 days of floor debate. It also followed a succession of failures by past congresses to get to this point. Vice President Joe Biden presided as 58 Democrats and two independents voted "yes." Republicans unanimously voted "no."

I hope everyone has their bills paid up, or off. I hope that everyone is secure in their jobs. I hope that demos realize that as this monstrosity takes effect, and people see no change for the upcoming 4 years, other than insurance, and Pharma companies allowed to continually raise their rates, that the demos understand as they lose a lion share of power in upcoming 2010, and 2012 elections that no matter the rhetoric they brought this on themselves.

And I hope that this, along with other plans that this administration has in mind to destroy this once great nation are reversible. For my children's sake.

Nice dramatics.
Am certain you were just as upset with the Medicare Medication Bill a few years ago when politicians jumped in bed with pharmaceuticals. Once again it appeared initially these politicians were doing something good for their citizens. But as always like alley cats they were in the cheap motel rooms with the pharmaceuticals. It was then just coincidence that many of the congressmen who orchestrated that ripoff are now lobbyists for the pharmaceutical companies.

Now that this initially nobel plan has been perversed with kickbacks am certain many of these congressmen will have a nice little Christmas present from the pharmaceuticals and maybe even a surprize lobbyist job awaiting them.

Now, back to the usual Rep vs Dem farce.

Yea, guess what? Im putting my money on any third party that actually has balls and stands up for something, because both parties arent deserving of power right now.

This Healthcare Bill with make it so that Orphanages are burned down, it will make it so that all blood banks will be emptied for the Government to drink it all, this bill will make it so the government will kill your mother with an axe, in front of your own eyes, and then they will take your eyes out.

the republicans bet the house (and the senate) that they could defeat this bill and thereby undermine the administration of a strong, internationally respected president for whom they have no viable opposition in 2012

the bill passed. they whine

if the bill had included public option, they would have whined

if the bill had included medicare buy in they would have whined

if the bill would have included a trigger for the states they would have whined

if the bill had expanded coverage to include all Americans they would have whined

if the bill had been a single payer plan like those used by the other major industrialized nations they would have whined

the republicans offered no cooperation in trying to fashion a bill that would have been beneficial for Americans; the republicans were more interested in using this issue as a partisan political wedge. they lost. and now they will whine. and so will their adherents, as we will soon see in this thread

I agree. The problem is we still have people that actually believe the Republicans are better than the Democrats. I would love to see a fiscally responsible third party that stayed out of social issues.

The Medicare prescription bill was a bi-partisan effort. This is clearly not. Second, What do you say to Obama's pay off of Pharma for their support? Is that ok now? Why? And lastly, any perversion done to this plan of the take over of 1/6th of the economy by Obama, is purely of the demos hand. Repubs were locked out. So own it man.

Isn't it amazing how many people think the Socialist/Communist backed Obama Been Lying "I Don't Really Give a Damn About Your Health Kill Granny Plan" is justified because Bush made a deal with the Pharmaceutical companies.

What they fail to mention is a worse more costly set of deals with Pharmaceutical companies, the Trail lawyers, Unions, certain States, along with bribes, threats and intimidation were all used to pass this Obamanation that is set to destroy the Nation as Obama planned from the start.

This plan is Anti American and does not one damn thing it claims, just like Obama Been Lying.

Good goin' you hold a majority in the house, senate, and the Presidency, and still managed to not be able to pass anything on time, without bribes to your corrupt Senators.....And still may not get anything to Obama's desk before the SoU speech in January....That's right....Gloat, but over what exactly?

and in doing so imposes a FIFTH OF A T of unbacked burden on already bankrupt states

the president says---hey, my bill is balanced, let CA pick up the tab

(no wonder no one presses a keystroke in reid/pelosi/obama's defense)

it depends for deficit neutrality upon a whole sea of changes that aint never gonna happen, and everyone knows it, all of us, all of them, all americans, including all seniors

So, what you're telling me is that the current way we do business, e.g. pre-existing clauses, insurance coverages discontinued for those that have insurance and suffer catostrapohic (sic) illness; and insurance companies raising premiums to "cost out" the middle and low classes from buying insurance is a good alternative?

Tell all those cancer patients, who were loyal conservatives and GOP followers, that it was okay to loose every cent they earned because their insurance was terminated due to their illness.

It may have issues that need working out, but I did not see the GOP propose anything that would have benefited the common man.

I pray that no one, rich, poor, black, white, dem, or GOP have to suffer at the hands of an insurance company that has many people on k street.
