Senate OKs health care measure, reaching milestone

This has indeed been a polarising topic

BBC News - US Senate passes landmark healthcare reform bill

"The Senate bill was adopted by 60 votes to 39, with senators voting along party lines"

"Fifty-eight Democrats and two independents backed the legislation, while Republicans voted unanimously against it"

on the bright side,

"The bill aims to cover 31m uninsured Americans and could lead to the biggest change in US healthcare in decades"

What alternative is available for these 31m Americans?

Paul

Anything other than allowing the government to steal money from me for that purpose.

Have you any idea how much this cost you?

Paul

Why shouldn't these people fleece and rape us. Steal our freedom and behave like this? We don't do anything. We elect incumbents right back in, the gang celebrating this mornning have been there for decades.

I agree with the liberals, we'll forget about this come election time. There is no shorter memory than the American People's.:(

So, what you're telling me is that the current way we do business, e.g. pre-existing clauses, insurance coverages discontinued for those that have insurance and suffer catostrapohic (sic) illness; and insurance companies raising premiums to "cost out" the middle and low classes from buying insurance is a good alternative?

no, that's not what i'm telling you

what i'm telling you i already told you

I did not see the GOP propose anything that would have benefited the common man.

the gop is out of power, for good reason

the dems own this bill

i'm surprised you're not aware

I pray that no one, rich, poor, black, white, dem, or GOP have to suffer at the hands of an insurance company that has many people on k street.

your prayers have not been heard

Why did Congress exempt themselves from this bill if it's so great for America? This question needs to be asked every Congressman over and over and over...
Why do you have to rush things? Why do you have to have meetings behind closed doors excluding the Republicans while you were campaigning on "working together" and "transparency"? When your representatives come home for recess, let them have it.

The reason America keeps getting screwed at election time is because most voters BELIEVE campaign promises and then forget the promises to hold them accountable when they are in office.

Does anyone here even know what the heathcare bill is all about?

you can't?

it's been all over the news

And every talking head has a different take on it. I don't believe everything I hear on the news. The death panel BS went too far. Have you read the bill? I do believe the republican pundits are intentionally clouding the issues to confuse the already ignorant public.

Yes,the destruction of private insurance.

That's not a bad idea. But it's not true. The private insurance industry is as corrupt as politicians and has most of them in their pocket.

i already told you

i read pretty much every report from every news source on the topic since summer

i took notes most the time

i report daily ongoings to my sainted mother in arkansas via telephone

i already told you, my sources are all

but i get most my scoops from capitol hill sources, especially the 2 insiders, the hill and politico

politico (vanderhei and allen) are msnbc regulars, perk up your ears when they talk

i know everything the msm have reported is contained in this bill

half a t cuts to m and m

10 years of taxes vs 6 of benefits

the doc fix

mandates on individuals to buy, which, right or wrong is one thing, but the politics of it promise pain to the party, especially amongst the peach cheeked

fines and criminalization of nonconformists

the lobbyists, the bribes, the phrma

the deficit---since all sides concede cuts scheduled to m and m will never occur

not to mention the doc fix

the class act

etc, etc, i could and have gone on and on on the subject

ya want links?

before asking me to provide em for the 1000th time, might i please request that you search on several of the issues i've listed

either way, have a wonderful holiday, friend

You have deference towards corrupt politicians over corrupt private business? Your solution just turns it over to another corrupt sect of people.

Perhaps the real solution is true reform?
  • Medicare and Medicaid audit units targeting waste, corruption, and fraud.
  • Locating Urgent Care Centers next to Emergency Rooms to triage patients
  • Tort reform
  • Insurance competition across state lines
  • Federally fund regional pools of the uninsured and have the insurance companies bid on plans for them

All of these are far more sensible than what I have heard from Democratic or Republican pundits and what I listed would save billions of dollars. I am still baffled as to why this had to be rushed through and created behind closed doors.

It's not my solution.

Your solutions would not put a dent in the problem It would not make it affordible for all and cover those that can't afford to eat let alone pay for insurance.

America doesn't even have a clue what the healthcare plan is. They are just thinking what they are told to think.

Really? And why is that?

Could it be, because the democrats won't tell America what's really in it?

Based on the secrecy, lies, lack of transparency and bribing democrats for their votes, nobody should vote on this bill spawned from hell.

Could be part of it. All the trickery was probably neccesary to get it this far. The GOP and big business fight any change that might reduce profits tooth and nail. Healthcare reform has been an issue for decades and this is the furthest it has ever gotten. When we find out all the specifics it may not be as bad as they say. Even so, the republicans can change everything back as soon as they get in power again. No matter. It is not the end of the world like they want you to believe..

how disrespectfully dismissive

and coming from a person who doesn't know what's in the bill

I hope everyone has their bills paid up, or off. I hope that everyone is secure in their jobs. I hope that demos realize that as this monstrosity takes effect, and people see no change for the upcoming 4 years, other than insurance, and Pharma companies allowed to continually raise their rates, that the demos understand as they lose a lion share of power in upcoming 2010, and 2012 elections that no matter the rhetoric they brought this on themselves.

And I hope that this, along with other plans that this administration has in mind to destroy this once great nation are reversible. For my children's sake.

Merry Christmas.

That's what you guys get for screwing over the country during the Bush years ..you lose the election and the other guys screw you over.

..LOL

Each one of the items I listed would indeed save billions and the overall solution would lower prices for all and cover all the uninsured. Did you actually read through it?

I never voted for Bush. I fail to see how trading one set of scumbags for another while both sets do incredible damage to this country is something to gloat about or find humor in. Your reaction is quite strange
