Cuban minister says Obama "imperial, arrogant"

So.....the problem isn't obama......but the united states? Is that your assertion?

Its not necessarily a political problem ...

Cept yeah, its a problem when your trying to live up to something for the world and have to represent the interests of a single superpower.

The Duchess of Mars called Obama a "fork".

J-mac? Any thoughts?

He was elected to represent the interests of the american people, not himself.

The President's Apology Tour
Great leaders aren't defined by consensus..

By KARL ROVE
President Barack Obama has finished the second leg of his international confession tour. In less than 100 days, he has apologized on three continents for what he views as the sins of America and his predecessors.

Mr. Obama told the French (the French!) that America "has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive" toward Europe. In Prague, he said America has "a moral responsibility to act" on arms control because only the U.S. had "used a nuclear weapon." In London, he said that decisions about the world financial system were no longer made by "just Roosevelt and Churchill sitting in a room with a brandy" -- as if that were a bad thing. And in Latin America, he said the U.S. had not "pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors" because we "failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas."

By confessing our nation's sins, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that Mr. Obama has "changed the image of America around the world" and made the U.S. "safer and stronger." As evidence, Mr. Gibbs pointed to the absence of protesters during the Summit of the Americas this past weekend.......

.........There is something ungracious in Mr. Obama criticizing his predecessors, including most recently John F. Kennedy. ("I'm grateful that President [Daniel] Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old," Mr. Obama said after the Nicaraguan delivered a 52-minute anti-American tirade that touched on the Bay of Pigs.) Mr. Obama acts as if no past president -- except maybe Abraham Lincoln -- possesses his wisdom.......

.........Mr. Obama makes it seem as though there is moral equivalence between America and its adversaries and assumes that if he confesses America's sins, other nations will confess theirs and change. But he won no confessions (let alone change) from the leaders of Venezuela, Nicaragua or Russia. He apologized for America and our adversaries rejoiced. Fidel Castro isn't easing up on Cuban repression, but he is preparing to take advantage of Mr. Obama's policy shifts.

When a president desires personal popularity, he can lose focus on vital American interests. It's early, but with little to show for the confessions, David Axelrod of Team Obama was compelled to say this week that the president planted, cultivated and will harvest "very, very valuable" returns later. Like what?

Meanwhile, the desire for popularity has led Mr. Obama to embrace bad policies. Blaming America for the world financial crisis led him to give into European demands for crackdowns on tax havens and hedge funds. Neither had much to do with the credit crisis. Saying that America's relationship with Russia "has been allowed to drift" led the president to push for arms negotiations. But that draws attention away from America's real problems with Russia: its invasion of Georgia last summer, its bullying of Ukraine, its refusal to join in pressuring Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions, and its threats of retaliation against the Poles, Balts and Czechs for standing with the U.S. on missile defense.

Mr. Obama is downplaying the threats we face. He takes comfort in thinking that Venezuela has a defense budget that "is probably 1/600th" of America's -- it's actually 1/215th -- but that hasn't kept Mr. Chávez from supporting narcoterrorists waging war on Colombia (a key U.S. ally) or giving petrodollars to anti-American regimes. Venezuela isn't likely to attack the U.S., but it is capable of harming American interests........

.........A superstar, not a statesman, today leads our country. That may win short-term applause from foreign audiences, but do little for what should be the chief foreign policy preoccupation of any U.S. president: advancing America's long-term interests.

He was elected to represent the interests of the american people, not himself.

It's a good article and makes some valid points.....Obama did a remarkable job of denigrating the very nation he leads (?) and yet nothing good has come of it. Why not?

Why is north korea still threatening war? Why have russia and china not supported sanctions against either north korea or iran. Why have the iranians not come to the table for talks with obama even after obama threw the iranian protestors under the bus? Where is the european support in afghanistan? Just what the hell is going on with chavez? He seems just as intent on blaming the us for all the worlds troubles as he did when bush was in office. Just when does the us get the increased respect and cooperation promised during the election?

Negative. It is an attack piece. Nothing more. Nothing less.

.Obama did a remarkable job of denigrating the very nation he leads (?) and yet nothing good has come of it. Why not?

You & Karl Rove call it denigrate. I call it having a president who understands that American foreign policy has international consequences. Now I know for a fact that Karl Rove knows that no U.S. president could seriously maintain the same perspective that made Bush President the most unpopular president ever and expect to serve more than one term. So why would Obama engage in such a stereotypical 'AMERICA! **** YEAH'-attitude? He wouldn't.

Why is north korea still threatening war?

Because it is their only bargaining chip. They threaten war whenever they want food or need help ensuring that their entire country doesn't revolt. This is irrelevant of whomever is in power. How many rockets has NK sent in the last 50 years?

Why have russia and china not supported sanctions against either north korea or iran.

Because it is not in their best political interests to alienate the few people who would stand against the U.S. on the international stage.

Why have the iranians not come to the table for talks with obama even after obama threw the iranian protestors under the bus?

Because the mullah's are not interested in diplomacy. It is a matter of what is politically advantageous. The power structure in Iran feeds itself off radicalized interpretations of the Koran. Without an enemy these interpretations are meaningless. So the Iranian government must continue to portray the U.S. government as an enemy of not just the leaders but of the people within that country.

Where is the european support in afghanistan?

BBC News - Nato members 'to send more troops to Afghanistan'

But Italian Defence Minister Ignazio La Russa told the Corriere della Sera newspaper on Thursday that Rome would send about 1,000 extra troops to Afghanistan. It currently has 3,200 soldiers there.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, speaking after a meeting with Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, indicated that Russia would also do its part in Afghanistan.

"We are ready to support these efforts, guarantee the transit [of troops], take part in economic projects and train police and the military," he said.

Meanwhile, the German parliament has voted to extend by a year the mandate allowing the government to send troops to Afghanistan, but did not lift the upper limit of soldiers, currently set at 4,500.

You were saying?

I've already addressed this. Your entire post is just a rehashing of non-points from your article. Is it my fault you do not understand politics above a Reagan level? Not really. Is it my fault you rely on Karl Rove to explain things to you? Not really. What is my fault is that I've given you a feeding ground for you to throw out your red herrings.

While political opinion is indeed important and American foreign policy does have repercussions. I honestly could care less what the self professed enemies of America say about the sitting President. What I do care about is what our allies think us. So far? China, Cuba, Iran and North Korea saying that they hate Obama is not in my list of concerns. I'm glad they dislike Obama. When Germany, England and France start saying the same thing? Then call me. Until then you're using the opinions of people who for political reasons need to hate us to make your point about how bad Obama is.

I vehemently disagree with anyone who believes Obama is a leader of anything. He is a pusher. He pushes, forces, and uses other means to get his way and not the American way as I see it. Obama Been Lying has promoted plans and projects that he claims will do one thing but to any sane person clearly sees, makes things worse, and when his ideas show signs of their true nature he pushes out more lies to the empty headed disciples he's created and the whole system of deception gets another leass on life until the next lie is needed to cover the last.

Arrogant with out a doubt and with good reason he is the best lying scum bag since the last on whose reign of lies ended, and if you listen to the idiot who created Kwanza all Africans are descendants of Royalty and that implies imperial in nature, so in a way that is right.

This is why we need to vote Obama out.
The world does not respect us because of Obama's warmongering ways.
We have lost a lot of respect in the world community because of Obama's arrogance and condescending attitude.
They said the same about Bush and the Democrats,Liberals and media said we should listen to them so they must be right.

Out with Obama and let the "world" pick our leader just like they did with Barack. Seems like a sound policy doesnt it?

I was also expecting geopolitical reality to change after barrack was elected.

What a farce!

Yeah, he really pushed that single-payer universal health care right down our throats.

And that Push to close Gitmo. My head is still spinning from how fast he got that done.

What's the address of your cave again? I'd be happy to send you regular updates about the outside world.:2razz:

Me and karl rove huh? That's almost as funny as the extra 1,000 troops the italians are sending to afghanistan. I'm guessing your assertion is obama can't deliver on the promises made during the campaign to gain the us all the cooperation we could stand. And you're glad he's hated in china, cuba, iran and nk? I think it's more like they know an amatuer when they see one.

As for bush's poor popularity, I wouldn't worry about that. He's no longer president. What you should be concerned with is Obama's. No president in my lifetime has seen his popularity fall as fast as obama's. It's really quite sobering. I don't hate obama but it's blindingly clear he wasn't even remotely prepared the position you people elected him to.

I'm not at all convinced his policies or his administration is up to the task before them. I'm not the only one either. Oddly only a few months after we were supposed to see the most significant political allignment in a generation things are going sour for the democratic party. You might just want to start wondering where the problems are. Here's your opportunity for some introspection. You might as well get over all that rove and I are being all biased and all. That's not the problem. Your president and your political party are the problem.

I was also expecting geopolitical reality to change after barrack was elected.

What a farce!

The world is a complicated place. Changing presidents in the US won't change the way other governments meet the needs of their respective peoples.

Ironically, the Cuban minister's description of Obama would apply much more accurately to Fidel Castro.

Thank you, what is the saying, the pot calling the kettle ?????????

What does the prez of Iran say about any POTUS or Hugo Chavez or the idiot in N. Korea?

As a matter of fact, yes. During this process the demos couldn't even heard their own cats, and then race to the mics to blame the delay on repubs that they wouldn't let in to participate in the writing of anything. Then when it boils down, the demos had to bribe their own to get anything through. And the best part is that as the process went on, the American people don't want what the demos are shoving through. What a bunch of disingenuous, corrupt, cowards.

And that Push to close Gitmo. My head is still spinning from how fast he got that done.

Well, A simple transfer of location to within the US borders, and I am sure in a few months we'll be hearing how sucessful Obama was at closing Gitmo from you....

What's the address of your cave again? I'd be happy to send you regular updates about the outside world.

Don't bother, if I ever get interested in your brand of update, I'll remember to check the bowl before flushing.

I love how the right will support a Cuban minister over their own President who is a Democrat. If that same Cuban minister said something similar about Bush, you'd be the first to say Cuba is commie backwards land where nothing they say matters.

Stop posting your crap in BN.

No, we don't support the former and we don't support the latter because his operating philosophy is too much in line with the former.

Interesting, the press didn't run the Chavez/Obama sulfur bit as they had with Chavez/Bush... endlessly looping it.

.

Wouldn't this be something you would support? I sure am.

Weren't conservative commentators complaining just a couple of months ago that they find Obama too meek and submissive toward other world leaders? And now he's imperial and arrogant? Am I missing something here?

Nope, you are not missing a thing. Some people here will latch onto anything to complain about Obama and liberals over. To be fair, some return the favor.

One would think they'd be more concerned about the leaky roof on their trailer house, huh?

I said it before, I'll say it again. There is a small percentage of our society that whines so loud they appear to be much larger than they are. They hate that "black muslim" Obama and it wouldn't matter if he cured cancer or walked on water. He's still just a "libbo, socialist, half-breed, democrat" who's momma was hoochie fooling around with black men. That's all they need to know to hate him. Some are a bit more discreet about coming right out and saying it, but reading between the lines, we all know who they are.

I am no Obama fan, for sure. Like most independant centrists, I too am a little disappointed with what's going down. I hoped for the best but now I'm not so sure. The juries still out as far as I'm concerned. But rest assured, when Obama becomes as much of a loser as the last president was, I'll be the first to shout it from the mountain top. I got my eye on you Obama.

But know this. If Castro or Chavez came out praising Obama, these same people would be spewing "Obama gets Chavez/Castro seal of approval.!" See? Told ya he was a socialist commie!" There is NOTHING this president can or will ever do to change their mind. Steel traps, all of 'em.
