President Obama will have to argue his own case to House Democrats as he seeks support for a planned surge of 30,000 troops into Afghanistan, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday, adding that she is finished asking her colleagues to back wars that they do not support.

You see, Pelosi has the best of both worlds here. If Afghanistan is successful, she can be on the bandwagon, saying that she supported the president. If it is a failure, she can say that she did not support the war. In essence, she is on the fence. There is another word for that, which many of our Congresscritters should already be familiar with, and in real life ways - The word is "Cowardice".

Take a stand, Nancy, one way or the other.

During the Civil War Democrats like Nancy would be called, "Copperheads".

I can't say that I blame her. Military quagmires are bad for electoral prospects, just ask Republicans circa 2006.

Unfortunately for Democrats in congress, Afghanistan is the least of their electoral problems.

Yes...we already knew it was the President's job to rally votes for the war. Pelosi proved during Bush's term that derallying votes for the war is more her cup of tea.

Say you what you want, and most of you know how I feel about that leathery botoxed bitch, but that statement took balls to tell the president of her own party. If she sticks to it and commits to that stance in any meaningful way, I have to give her credit for having a brass pair.

I don't agree with her stance at all. I think we need the troops there. But my point is, she stuck her neck out there saying that.

You know that will come back during her re-election.

She either has balls, or she's gone belligerently drunk with the power she thinks she has. It seems to me like Ol' Nancy fancies herself invulnerable with her Majority and President. I think she thinks SHE is the President...Well, she could be...Hmmmm...what if she's plotting to take out Obama and Biden??

I wouldn't be surprised if she ripped off her face and there was a lizard underneath.

I agree. Either she supports the troop surge or she doesn't. You can't stand up and sit down at the same time. Unless you're Chuck Norris. Then the chair stands for you!

Security wise it would be idiotic to not support the troop surge. It's the only chance we have of winning this war. And we NEED to win this war. A pull out would only give terrorists an ego the size of China.

"Hey look! We beat back The Great Satan!

Would no doubt be a cry that would be heard and used to get more people into their groups. It would also be a cry that would no doubt inspire those of that kind of mindset to grow more bold and be more willing to commit more terrorist acts abroad and here at home.

Very true, but we no longer fight wars like you HAVE to fight wars. We haven't had it since WWII.

That will ultimately be the demise of this country.

sounds to me like she pretty much took a stand. I'd say obama is leading the wrong party if he thinks he can win this thing.
