Evangelist Oral Roberts dies in Calif. at age 91 | National News | Comcast.net

TULSA, Okla. — Oral Roberts, the evangelist who rose from humble tent revivals to found a multimillion-dollar ministry and a university bearing his name, died Tuesday. He was 91.

Roberts died of complications from pneumonia in Newport Beach, Calif., according to his spokesman, A. Larry Ross. The evangelist was hospitalized after a fall on Saturday. He had survived two heart attacks in the 1990s and a broken hip in 2006.

Roberts was a pioneer on two fronts — he helped bring spirit-filled charismatic Christianity into the mainstream and took his trademark revivals to television, a new frontier for religion.

It's a shame it didn't happen in 1987, when he first threatened that if people didn't donate, God was going to call him home.

That God...always running late.

It could not have happened to a better person. To bad it did not happen sooner.

I hope you're not one of the folks that all bent out of shape when people said the same thing about Ted Kennedy.

Doesn't the RIP indicate that this thread is for paying respects and not grinding idealogical axes against the corpse of the deceased?

V - R.I.P. Tag rules
• As per this announcement, threads marked with the R.I.P. Tag are for respectful remembrance of the dead and should be approached with the same etiquette one would show at a funeral.
• Users may make a standard thread with the same story as used in the R.I.P. thread, and vise versa.

You are correct.

People can make all the negative comments they want about this guy, but the fact remains that he accomplished a lot for both Christianity and Televangelism.

I give the guy credit for ORU. I may not agree with alot of what is taught there, but I give credit to any one who respects education enough to found a university.

It becomes clear when Liberals even ones masquerading as something else spread their message of hate about someone who died that they in deed the ones who promote hate. They follow the Alensky rule that says accuse the other guy of either being as you are or doing as you do to keep them off balance. Where they are screwing up is in being childish.

I believe there was surely some rejoicing when that took place when Kennedy died and there will be even more when Byrd and especially Obama go, but I don't believe it is something normal civilized people should be doing.

Oral Roberts became a joke and his failings were many as are the failings of every man and the party of hate would do well to respect the dead no matter how much the hated him for believing in God.

Good Riddance.

My condolences to his family, friends, those who relied on him for his spiritual message, and those who relied on him for his nation-wide influence.

I thought RIP meant the same as Święte Pokoje?

He was a scam artist. Good riddance.

Really don't know that much about the man but am always suspicious of these mass marketing evangelists.
But I must commend him for living his whole life with a terrible first name.

Only the good die young..........

He led a long and interesting life, my condolences to his family. I am not going to judge him... I will leave that to a higher power.

Moderator's Warning:
I'd like to remind people that RIP threads are not the place for negative commentary about the person who has passed.

Looks like people did not send in enough donations, so God finally did take him. This makes him a prophet.

Seriously, though, people may differ on what they feel about him, but Oral Roberts did have quite an impact on religion in America.
