Girl, 12, allegedly raped at El Cerrito school

El Cerrito police will focus their investigation on the alleged sexual assault, while West Contra Costa Unified School District officials look into how such a crime could have occurred on the Portola Middle School campus during the school day, officials said.

The boy allegedly raped the girl about 2:40 p.m. Thursday in a stairwell at the school at 1021 Navellier St., police Cmdr. Michael Regan said.

The stairwell was empty because class was in session, he said. The two students, who apparently know each other, had passes or reasons not to be in class, he said. He declined to discuss other details of the alleged assault.

Another student who entered the stairwell and witnessed the incident reported it to a school resources officer, Regan said.

Police arrested the suspect at his home in Richmond about 8 p.m. Thursday. He was booked into juvenile hall in Martinez and charged Monday with rape and false imprisonment.

This sounds really sketchy. Why were both these kids out of class? What reasons did they have to be out of class? What is the history of the boy in regards to women? I'm not justifying this - it just sounds REALLY random for there not to be a more elaborate back story.

Since they are minors I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for details at this point in time. Maybe they needed to go to the bathroom.
 
Well let's blame the victims for some dumb ass reason like they was wearing sexy over sized sweat shirts or worse dresses and deserved what they got.

Oh and let's not forget the ones who did it too them were misunderstood and didn't mean to hurt anyone it was just a game that got out of control and it's not their fault because they are being raised in a one parent household.

Yes I can see it now some damn fool is going to come up with some retarded excuse for the perps. and blame the victims like the Hollywood idiots like Whoopie Goldberg claiming that Roman Polanski's rape of a 13 year old wasn't a rape, rape. What the hell does that mean?

The boys who did this need to spend the maximum time possible behind bars to send a message that this will cost you, there is no place for mercy for rapists regardless of age.

When I was in middle school, a boy was caught fingering a girl in the art supply room while everyone else was in class. She claimed that he forced her, but later it came out that she was willing, and had only claimed she was forced to get out of trouble.

So while claims of rape need to be taken seriously, it's also good to make sure that you have all the facts before jumping to the conclusion that the girl was actually raped and the boy should be locked up.

Exactly correct.

Women, especially young women, will do ANYTHING to save their reputation.

Investigators need to make sure that this is not what is occurring before they do ANYTHING to the alleged doer.
 
It was actually reported by another student. Was there something about the sex that appeared to be violent or used force? We don't have enough information to know.

There needs to be further investigation. The arrest in this case was VERY premature.

Maybe there was something fishy about them having sex in the stairwell of the school of the middle school? ;)

Could it be that police did not release ALL the evidence that they have to the press? Nah....That would never happen....Carry on.

Not necessarily, there could be additional information contained in the report that wasn't provided to the media because of the age of the victim.

Maybe so... I just think the maybe ... they should have waited until the full story was known.

Perhaps.

However, psychologically, children of that age are not generally rapists. I think it was likely a joint venture until the third party wondered on the scene.
