Houston, Texas elects first openly gay mayor

And no one ever talked about women or sex while you were in the military, right?

The reality is...gay soldiers either have to pretend to be straight or they are outed. Just look at the number of discharges since DADT.

And, you know this from your vast military experience? You know better than I do about the minutiae of soldier life.

Got proof that there was more Mormon than Catholic involvement?
You lived in Utah? and you didn't get abducted and forcibly baptised in the dead of night? Damn Mormons, you can't trust them....:2razz:

I think its been well established where the majority of the funding came from. But if I get the time, I will do a search and post a link.

Yes...I lived in Utah for 25 years. Born and raised there. Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-Mormon. In fact, I often stand up for Mormons. There are a lot of good things that the Mormons do. On this particular issue, though...they were dead wrong and I'm very disappointed that the Mormons would engage in the type of lies and deceit that surrounded the yes on 8 crowd. Lying is lying whether you believe the greater good of your cause is just.

Wow, what an incredibly stupid post! What if any one is bad with their job? Does her being gay make it more likely she will be bad? How is this relevant at all?

It's just as relevant as that stupid huzzah BS you posted earlier into he thread.

Bison can be though. Bull bison do engage in anal sex with each other.

But, bison aren't steers. Do you know what a steer actually? I'm thinking you don't, because you're obviously missing out on the humor...:rofl

Let me break this down for you.

You claimed a "study" gave evidence of genetic differences in homosexuals.

Then you decided to taunt claiming this was "evidence"

I pointed to the very study you were quoting that proved even the scientist who conducted the study could not confirm is was genetic and could be any number of factors including environment that led to her findings.

Its called reading carefully. You should try it before crowing how this proved your point only to be embarrassed later by quotes from your own study.

You are completely mistaken. You will of course show where I said that gays have a genetic difference. Oh wait, I have not said that. Let's look at my actual words:

In point of fact, there are a large number of research papers on the topic of why people have a certain orientation, and a fair number support the idea that orientation is not learned or chosen. With this being the case, your claim that there is no evidence that people are created gay is false.

You should not tell others to read carefully when you have not.

Now, once again, you make this claim:

There is no evidence people are created gay. To beleive that is to believe a fallacy.

Now, I have asked several times for you to document this claim, and you have not yet done so. Would you care to do so now, or admit you are just making crap up?

And my point is, maybe they don't care about "being gay" when voting for a Mayor. They are realizing that partaking in homosexual activity doesn't make you different. HUZZAH!

Maybe it makes them just a little different.

q. why do so many gay men have beards?

a. to hide their stretch marks.

I'm glad, I wish I lived in Houston, Dallas would never do that.

You are a bad, bad man.

People near Houston are more progressive ... We don't have that many bible thumpers here..... . :) I am happy about that too.

Props to Houston, for voting in a person based on their skills, and not their sexuality.

This post reminds me of the time right before I moved from Houston. I was dating a girl (who's family was well known in the retail industry and very influential Baylor alumnist's <if that's even a word:3oops:>, if the word Dillard rings a bell to anyone) and she volunteered to run the sound board at 2nd Baptist Church. I would go to church with her and the preacher there was named Dr. Fred Young, I believe. Anyways, I remember him wailing from the pulpit the most hateful diatribes against gays and they organized many committee's bent of oppressing gays of even the most simplest of rights.

So, I think this is a giant leap of progress for Houston. Hat's off to Houston for getting one right.

Progress is slow but sure when it comes to liberty here in the US. Even Texas. I encourage the members of the gay community to have patience as all trends show to be heading in their favor regarding equal rights.

Also, this post caught my eye because Humble (the poster's place of residence) was a regular stomping grounds of mine and I wanted to give a shout out to my neighbor. :2wave:

I remember Dillards in NorthPark growing up. I alsoe remember Sanger Harris. The place to go for me though was Neiman Marcus. After all my Grandfather worked as a buyer for Stanely Marcus when Neiman Marcus first started out here in downtown Dallas.

I might add that the girl I was dating, who I sometimes thought was a Limbaugh re-incarnate with all her rightwing ideals, was a hard-core democrat. I bring this up to point out how times really have changed.

How come whenever an election represents some type of milestone or a "first in history" people always say its not based on skills?

Ironic ...

For the same reson that when someone criticizes that person's performance you Libbos scream and cry that it's some sort of prejudice rather than actual performance.

That door swings both ways.

I wonder how many know how to pronounce Humble?

Which reminds me of the street in New York City, spelled Houston but they pronounce it HOW-stan...

This thread also reminds me of how it wasn't that many years ago - 1982 (your MMV on that...LOL) - that Kathy Whitmire was the first, and until now, only female elected as mayor of Houston. She was also the first female elected to ANY city of Houston government office as City Controller. She appointed the first black as Police Chief (Lee Brown - later elected Mayor), the first Hispanic Houston Municipal Court judge (Sylvia Garcia - current County Commissioner). Slowly, but surely.

*disclosure notice--I worked with Kathy's brother...LOL

I don't know why you categorize me with crazy people. Please don't judge it makes you look bad.

I don't scream about prejudice, I scream about idiocy. I've never found the criticism about prejudice to have any value anyway.

So nice try, but the generalizations about liberals just don't work on me. :2wave:

His generalization on liberals don't work on most liberals. It is pointed out almost daily, but he cannot seem to help himself.

You should not tell others to read carefully when you have not.

LOL My God. You quote yourself then deny you said it

With this being the case, your claim that there is no evidence that people are created gay is false.

You just said right there its genetic. You can't argue the opposite then claim you aren't in the next sentence :D

You used this study as evidence of this theory of yours. I just blew it away with the admission of the very scientist who made the study that she cannot confirm it is genetic.

Since you want to play dumb, please explain what that study is supposed to support if not the genetics claim you have already made

Bear in mind the opening sentence in your "study"

Brain scans have provided the most compelling evidence yet that being gay or straight is a biologically fixed trait.

So even THEY are claiming that this is a genetic argument. The one YOU quoted LOL

I'm sure that is what suckered you in. Too bad you didn't read the end when she admitted she can't prove it is genetics :)

hint: If you claim they are born gay, thats genetics my friend. :rofl

Now, once again, you make this claim:
Now, I have asked several times for you to document this claim, and you have not yet done so. Would you care to do so now, or admit you are just making crap up?

Please do not lie. I already showed you I wasn't the one who made the original argument. You will find on page one of the New York Gay thread people comparing race to gay marriage. I asked for evidence to support that theory since race is genetic.

See if you are going to compare race to homosexuality, you kind of need to support a genetic claim

You failed miserably I might add since the very scientist who made the study you pointed to admitted she cannot confirm her findings are genetic.

My statement is based on your lack of evidence to support the original claim of comparing race to homosexuality.

But if you want to continue to dig a deeper hole for yourself, go right ahead. I'm enjoying your inability to come to terms with the wording in your own study. :2wave:

as long as she does a good job who care what she does in private.

Ms. Parker's sexual orientation was never an issue in the campaign, directly. Some conservative supporters of her opponent (a black man) did try to make it an issue in mailers, but apparently nobody much cared. Her opponent openly opposed attempts to make it an issue. Annise was judged on her qualifications, and as city comptroller, she had a good reputation.

It seems to me the only folks making anything of her private life is the press. She has never hidden her orientation, nor mentioned it.
