So? I'll see it differently if they elect a gay republican. Someone call Larry Craig. She is the first gay mayor that is what different.

What's your view on homosexuality then? Born with? Choice? Etc? And what say you of these studies?
I think there's a difference between being attracted to men and being "gay". Gay is an identity- a fashion, a subculture and a "scene".
I don't feel a lot of familiarity with the mainstream gay scene.
Do you think before you post? If people don't care about gays, then gays have won, and will be able to do things like marry and serve in the military. The whole reason for those two issues is because people do care about gays, and see gay people as "other".

People near Houston are more progressive ... We don't have that many bible thumpers here..... . I am happy about that too.
Props to Houston, for voting in a person based on their skills, and not their sexuality.
You should be thanking God for that. :lol:I'm pretty sure i don't think like a woman.
Annise Parker just cracked me up big time with her acceptance speech.
She said "Here is the news you have been waiting for. I am proud to be the first..........."
**Long pause**
"...graduate of Rice University to become Mayor of Houston, Texas". :rofl
Gays can serve in the military.
Not honestly.
Yes, honestly. They don't have to lie about their sexual orientation.
I don't have a link yet, but I will soon. It has just been announce that Annise Parker has become the first openly gay mayor in Houston history. Quite a surprise, and Parker will be an excellent mayor. As Houston City Controller, she did a superb job.
Just goes to show you that Houstonians are not the stereotyped hillbillies they are made out to be.
I will post a link as soon as I can get one.
So, what does everybody think?EDIT: This from the New York Times, showing Parker with a slim lead, but the election is now over. Will have a better link as soon as it comes in.
EDIT2: And here it is. Gene Locke, Parker's opponent, has conceded.
The "demonization" of gay people that the right-wing has tried to perpetuate is beginning to crumble. As more and more people in the United States actually know gay people, they are seeing that the myths and deceptions are just that. This is why the poll numbers have shifted dramatically in the last decade.
Despite its history of prejudice and discrimination, The United States usually gets it right eventually. It sometimes just takes longer than it should.
The bigger cities are usually full of democrats, even SLC in really republican Utah has had Democrat mayors. Won't make much difference to the rest of the state, though. It is state leadership that matters, not city leadership...
Please explain this statement as I'm unaware of this having taken place.

How can you be unaware? The radical right has been demonizing homosexuals for the last two decades. They have been perpetuating the myth of the gay mafia, the gay agenda, the gay lifestyle to try to scare people about gay people.
The reality is....it does work. All you have to look at is the money that the right-wing, namely the Mormons spent in California during prop 8 to spread their lies and alter the election. It was one of the dirtiest and most deceitful campaigns that I have seen in my life.
I hope to see the United States get it right about marriage equality in my lifetime.
Are you new to politics or something?
