An explosion has torn through a nightclub in the Russian city of Perm, killing at least 76 people, media reports say.

Details are sketchy but Russian news agencies citing police report that many people were also injured in the blast.

News agencies said about 200 people were in the club at the time. The cause of the blast was not clear.

The explosion happened at 2315 local time (2015 GMT), RIA news agency reported.

It quoted an official as saying no blaze followed the blast.

Perm is some 1,400km (870 miles) east of Moscow.

"The explosion occurred in the Lame Horse bar in Perm," Interfax quoted a police official as saying.

The club is located in the city centre, reports said.

These attacks, to me at least, don't have the stench of al-Jihad--al-Qa'ida

Blowing up a bar?....:(
That's just sick......

Let me guess - its the chechyans again? This would make two major attacks in just a few days. And Putin is considering running for President again . . .

It would be far better for people to actually read the entire article as opposed to commenting on the Headlines and arriving at a completely wrong conclusion.

This was merely an accident, even the Russian Authorities (not noted for truthfulness) admit it was an accident although criminal charges may be brought against those who ran this event.

Putin needs to be removed from office permenantly. Putin and Stalin are very much the same in terms of their style of leadership.

I'm not a fan of Putin but he's more intelligent and less crazy than Stalin was. Stalin was a monster that thought nothing of massacring his own people.

Way to jump to conclusions . This was a fireworks accident not a terrorist attack.

I never said it was a terrorist attack which is why i carefully worded my post and said it was another in a series of blasts in Russia.
Plus, the fireworks could have been sabotaged. The investigation is yet to be concluded.

It's Russia's appalling health and safety standards. Hundreds die in similar fires every year.

" ... Svetlana Kuvshinova, who was in the club when the fire began, said the flames "took seconds to spread".
"It was like a dry haystack. There was only one way out. They nearly stampeded me," the Associated Press quoted her as saying.
Another eyewitness told local TV: "When the merry-making started, when they were warming up, they set off fireworks.
"When I turned back, I saw drops falling off the ceiling and then there was a lot of smoke. Later this huge flame was moving along the ceiling," the unnamed woman said.
A spokesman for the prosecutor-general's main investigative unit told Itar-Tass that it was not a terrorist attack.

"We are talking about a failure to observe fire regulations," he said. .... "
