Local World War II Veteran Fights Homeowner's Association - wtvr

This story illustrates stupidity on a massive scale. What in the HELL can possibly offensive about a flag pole.

Oh wait a minute maybe it's because it makes people with E.D. feel less than proud of themselves.

No wait it's because it's the wrong color? Or does it offend people because it's not flying a Red Flag with a hammer a cycle? Maybe a Crescent or a Swastika would make would these sorry people feel good.

The 90 year-old Colonel Van Barfoot has it right and that is flying the little short little poles with the flag tilted at almost a 45 degree angle is technically wrong. It places the flag not only as he says at a half satff configuration it also amounts to dipping the flag. Something that should never happen.

This is going on in Sussex Square Community, I suggest they change the name to SUCKS Square.

If you wish to support this true American Hero you can call The Home Owners Association if you want to call them:
SUSSEX SQUARE SERVICE HOA at 804-740-8795

90 year-old Colonel Van Barfoot has until Friday to remove the flagpole from his yard.

Since this saga began, it's been played out on the radio from Washington D.C. to Boston, but many believe what is happening to this true American hero is tarnishing the image of Richmond.

Barfoot lives in the Sussex Square community in western Henrico County. He moved there in July, and was ordered to remove the flagpole from his front lawn when he flew the flag on Labor Day, and again on Veterans Day.

The homeowner's association doesn't explicitly forbid flagpoles but they must be "aesthetically appropriate". Short flags are allowed on porches, but Barfoot says that's not the way he was raised to respect the flag.

"First of all, it's not dignified, and it shows you got it in the half mast position... you can walk around here and I'll bet you the American flag is hanging out in the rain, nobody ever checks it", says Barfoot.

Family members say he's the most decorated American combat veteran alive. Barfoot has been awared more than 20 medals, including the Medal of Honor, The Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.

Wounded in combat three times, Barfoot fought in World War II and in Vietnam.

I hate these scummy homeowners' associations. They should be illegal. If you own the property, and are following the local zoning laws, you should be able to do whatever the hell you want on your land.

so local govt is not always good.

I talked with a political think tank CEO a few years back who told me Local Politics was more corrupt and dangerous than Nation politics. At the time She didn't know I was a Councilman and saw some of it first hand.

Local government is easier to corrupt because it takes less to influence people. Once they have been corrupted it's easier to control them as thay move from Local, to State, to National offices and that's how it has always worked.
I can tell you from personal experience that if you are in Politics to do the right thing the pressure gets intense to join them.

I was on the short end of I call them a lot of close 6 to 1 votes.

This is what happens when you turn over your sovereignty to a HOA.

Moral of the story is to avoid HOA's at all costs.
