The Iraqi shoe thrower gets his comeuppance! :rofl

BBC News - Shoe attack on Bush shoe thrower

An Iraqi man famous for throwing shoes at US President George W Bush in 2008 has come under fire in a similar attack.

Jounalist Muntadar al-Zaidi was speaking at an event in Paris when the incident happened.

Andy May has the details.

Bush had better reflex action.

Bush reacted very well to the incident and called it what it was, an attention getting action.

And you dont understand the middle east culture... not surprising.

As for the shoe thrower becoming the receiver.. kinda funny yea.

I agree with American's comment that Bush handled himself well. First, he did an amazing job dodging the shoe. Second, I liked how he found humor in the whole thing. I remember feeling warmly about him....that one time. ;)

Yes in your and my eyes he "handled himself well" by not only dodging the shoe but making a light moment out of a tense situation.

However that was never the goal of the shoe thrower. It was a pure insult towards Bush and the US and people like American and other americans seem to gloss totally over this and make fun of a whole culture. The fact is throwing a shoe at someone and showing the soles of ones shoes is a huge insult in many cultures, just not in the west. In fact I would almost claim half the world sees it as an insult.

So sure ignore it, but it was a huge insult against the US president... basically around the same as calling Bush's mother a whore and his twin daughters for prostitutes.

Oh, I knew it was a huge insult against him. Frankly, I couldn't blame the guy for being so pissed off.

Yeah I still remember. He said it was size 10.

Personal attack.

I heard this on the radio this morning and got a kick out of it.

It's not insulting if you don't believe in that custom. I mean just because it may insult me doesn't mean it will insult you. So even though it may may have been an insulting act in that country, Americans percieved it just as it was, a thrown shoe, he could have thrown a coffee mug and it would have had the same effect. Just like the Islamic cartoons, they find it extremely offensive to the point of violence, I personally think some of them are down right funny.

Ah, someone who actually watched the news that repeated this fact over and over and over and over... Ya really paid attention there! :2razz:

Here's lookin' at ya kid... ;)

I agree fully. However that does not change the intention of the shoe throwing and what it symbolizes in that part of the world and other parts and that is my point.

That's pretty much how I feel about the shoe thrower, and a few other select folks around the middle east. It seems only fair this guy would get this treatment.

It is ironic. That's the part I love about this story. Now, I'm wondering if this incident will get the same endless coverage as the original one.

I'm wondering whether the shoe thrower will serve any time in jail.

I must say, it looks like this journalist ultimately benefited career wise from throwing a shoe at Bush. Now he's a big shot who gives press conferences in Paris! :2razz:

Of course it's paris. Who could possibly hate americans or america more than the french? Me, I'd rather spend a weekend in Paris Arkansas. The folks are much nicer.

I bet not, but it would be funny to see the shown throwing again and again. :rofl

If the guy who threw it had better aim he would have nailed him....
He really didn't have to dodge.....;)
Someone should introduce him to an American custom, ie. a shoe up his 888 with a foot attached....;)

And in Paris nonetheless.
Pure awesomeness.
