Swiss voters approve constitutional ban of minarets

It is time to erase the foolish notion that just because you breathe air gives you the right to go to any place you want & impose yourself upon the inhabitants.....
Unless you are a conquering force.....;)

Oh, boy. You're more confused than I thought.

Even in the U.S., the will of the people is limited. There are certain things the government cannot do, even if an overwhelming majority support doing them. You can find a list of these forbidden things in the U.S. Constitution. Most are in the Bill of Rights.

In the us we have a representational form of democracy. In switzerland they have a more direct form of democracy. I prefer their form of democracy.

How about if the Swiss made their own people slaves? How about if we had slaves in this country (again)?

The idea that we can't have any opinion about anything another country does is pure bull.

Of course you can have an opinion....:)
Other's might think it's worthlessthough....;)

Never said that, did I?

Can we or can we not have an opinion on what other countries do?

Do you care how Iran and Saudi Arabia treat it's citizens? Do you complain about places where they force women to wear burkas?

"Impose yourself on the inhabitants" - that's ironic.

Well I, for one, don't want to conquer switzerland to impose our building codes on them.

Again you completely and totally dodge the point.

Do you believe in U.S. constitutional rights or not? Yes or no please.

And another dodge. You know this isn't just about building codes.

You dodge alot. For good reason.

Hmmmm this seems to be in contridiction:

Art. 15 Freedom of religion and conscience

1 Freedom of religion and conscience is guaranteed.

2 Everyone has the right to choose freely their religion or their philosophical convictions, and to profess them alone or in community with others.

3 Everyone has the right to join or to belong to a religious community, and to follow religious teachings.

4 No one shall be forced to join or belong to a religious community, to participate in a religious act, or to follow religious teachings.

Nope, not even a little bit...;)

That's off topic. Are we talking about whether or not switzerland should have the freedom to determine the direction of their own country or american constitutional rights? You should be more clear.

Which of these rights are violated under the issue at hand?

I've stated, quite clearly, the swiss have every right to determine the direction, and building codes, of their own country. No dodgin' goin' on here.

So does anyone know if this means they will tear down existing minarets, will tall crosses be subject to the same "codes"?

I see no contradiction. Minarets aren't mentioned anywhere.

Okay.

Do you believe that all people should have certain rights, like Americans do? Or do you believe that a government should have total, unlimited power?

Just being a democracy isn't enough. There's that tyranny of the majority thing.

Neither do I....
In fact I applaud their effort to reject Islam interjection into their society.....;)
If Kara Mustafa had not been defeated & the siege of Vienna broken, much of Europe would be under the dark blanket of Islam today.....:doh
Why people remain blind to the danger of Islam is a mystery to me...
The objective is very clear....
It is written down...:doh

And ANOTHER dodge!

I don't really think you're as unintelligent as you are pretending to be. It's kind of pathetic.

Yeah, like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion?

This isn't about building codes, and you know it. This vote wasn't about safe construction or preventing fire.

Hopefully not.....
Why destroy tradition?.....;)

Tradition isn't part of building codes.

But this isn't about building codes, of course.
