The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, says Paterson is seeking the one-time power in a bill to the Legislature. The bill would give him power to make spending cuts and take other actions to provide enough cash for the state to pay its December bills.

Not really keen on the idea of giving the Gov more power, even though its only "temporary"

I wish there was a way to place on bet on this one. I have a feeling the Unions in State Government will step in and demand that they not be effected by any cost cutting measures. They have in the past acted like the stupod fishermen who would rather fish themselves out of a living by over fishing than learning to live within the fishes ability to maintain reasonable stocks for the next years catch. Unions would rather everyone go down with the ship.

What well become abundantly clear Nation wide in the very near future is that spending more than you have on things you don't need to placate people who have no desire to get out and work is a losing proposition.

N.Y. is in great shape compared to California that I believe at last count was 21 billion dollars short. That makes the $3.2 billion deficit in NY not look so bad.

Why are the bluest states the furthest in debt?
