We all know what to expect from Democrats and Republicans as far as the president's approval goes, but the steep downward trend among independent voters has got to be worrying the White House and the democrats in the House and Senate.

Obama's Approval Rating Slips to 53%
CBS News Poll: Handling of Afghanistan Fuels Three Point Dip; Decrease Most Noticeable Among Independents

(Excerpt)

The president's approval rating has dropped seven points among independents. Forty-five percent of independents now approve of how the president is handling his job. Last month, a majority of 52 percent approved.

Assessments of how Mr. Obama is handling the war in Afghanistan have become more negative since early October. Thirty-eight percent now approve of how President Obama is handling the war - but even more, 43 percent, disapprove. Disapproval has risen nine points, from 34 percent last month.

Again, most of the change has occurred among independents. Last month, 44 percent of independents approved and 36 percent disapproved of the job Mr. Obama was doing on Afghanistan. Now, more independents disapprove than approve: 49 percent disapprove, and just 30 percent approve.

Could be reason why Obama is revealing more and more of his radical true self. Playing to his base is about all he has left.

Rassmussen has him at 49% approve 51% disapprove amongst likely voters while Gallup has him at 50-42.

The shine starting to fade from the Democrat's star? Can this fall fast enough to stop the madness they are trying to force down our throats?

Unless the country is in prosperity the President will have low approval ratings. It doesn't matter if the President can do anything about the state of the country or not.

Obama really hasn't done a single positive thing since taking office in my eyes. Well, I guess him doing nothing or lagging could be considered a positive on some topics (health care).

This president might not make it through his first term, much less win another term. When americans finally learn where this first 800 billion dollars went, or is heading, he may very well be impeached. They are now talking about yet another stimulus package, this counrty is broken, and when people finally wake up to this reality, I fear for the safety of all americans.:(

Reread the story, Grim, and see if you can figure out specifically what they're talking about...

Hint: It begins with the letter 'A' and rhymes with Lafghanistan.:2razz:

"Obama gets elected: the American people have spoken.
Obama's approval rating is falling: the American people are idiots."

Does that sound about right? I know I've seen that on a political cartoon before.

Oh, well, I expect his approval rating will go up and down during his Presidency. It happens to every President.
Perhaps part of the problem is that he inherited a mess and he just can't please everyone, so depending on the issues being addressed and how he addresses them, ratings will yo-yo.

Or it's that his programs haven't done the good that he promised.

Re: CBS:Obama's Approval Rating Slips to 53%. Decrease Most Noticeable Among Independ

Independents thought Obama was a centrist, which is why they voted for him. Now he's governing from the far left and the US is a center-right nation. It's no surprise that he's alienating independents.

Obama's problem is that he's allowing the radical left to hijack his administration, despite having run on a "centrist" platform.

There is so much nonsense this guy and his lackeys have pulled in 11 months, it's alarming.

When the next election cycle comes around, his raging river of idiocies will lend themselves to a non-stop TV series of the dumbest moves made by an American President.

It makes people long for Carter.

The fall from cult-hood is a long one, and he is making it at a fairly fast clip.

Enjoy your 49-53% while it lasts.

No surprise here. People are beginning to learn the truth and as the media learns that their ratings are suffering from playing a roll in the Obama propaganda machine.

When the Republican Party left me with the passing of the Patriot Act and the support of some of the Bush policies I like a number of people I know registered as Independent adding to the Conservative numbers in this group. I believe a large number of people who identify themselves as Independent are referring to a state of mind more than the political party because very few people could tell you what the Independent Party Platform is. I would also say the majority of these people also lean to the right of center because a quick review of the platform it is pretty darn close to Conservative for the most part.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 27% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-nine percent (39%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -12

Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty-one percent (51%) now disapprove.

Re: CBS:Obama's Approval Rating Slips to 53%. Decrease Most Noticeable Among Independ

I don't really imagine the white house is overly concerned with the approval rating right now. Sure, it's nice for it to be higher, but not really necessary. As far as future elections, the rating at the time of those elections is more important. You can bet Obama will be more concerned in 2012. And really, I think it'll be the economy, and whether the republicans can find a decent candidate, that determines whether he's reelected. If the economy is going good, he's pretty much set. If we're still in a recession at that point or have a high unemployment rate he would have reason to worry. Though, even if the economy is crappy, unless a decent republican is running he'll probably win anyway.

Re: CBS:Obama's Approval Rating Slips to 53%. Decrease Most Noticeable Among Independ

It is a decent approval rating. It is also overly dramatic to say this is indication that all he's not going to make it through his term. The slip with the independents is the interesting, but expected part.
