Apple's Rejection of iPhone App Showing Political Caricatures Rankles Creator - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News - FOXNews.com

A conservative filmmaker in Hollywood thought he had developed a worthwhile iPhone app: a telephone directory listing every U.S. senator and congressman, with caricatures of the legislators drawn by an artist.

But Apple apparently didn't see the value, and the computer behemoth said a cartoon drawing of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was part of the reason why.

The filmmaker, Ray Griggs, told FoxNews.com that his small firm, RG Entertainment, received a rejection letter from Apple this week calling the caricatures "objectionable." He added that he has received several e-mails suggesting that Apple stock owned by Pelosi's husband may have played a factor in the decision.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill, when questioned about the application, said "this is the first I’ve heard of this." He declined to comment further.

Boycott apple.

Their company, their product, their choice.

Why would they engage in that kind of political controversy anyway? That's not usually Apple's cup of tea.

Boycott apple.

I'd be wary of trying to discern anything about apple from an app store rejection. The rejections are extremely inconsistent and depend more on who reviews your app than anything else. They even rejected an e-book reader because it could be used to read the karma sutra

Also, I'd almost put money on the fact that the developer is being misleading, if not outright lying about the situation in order to drum up press and controversy. The partisan angle on this is frankly ridiculous. Also, his assertion "He added that he has received several e-mails suggesting that Apple stock owned by Pelosi's husband may have played a factor in the decision." is a bit hilarious.

Apple stated that they rejected the app because " it contains content that ridicules public figures." Now either the only senator to have a caricature was Pelosi, in which case it is unsurprising that it was rejected for disparaging pelosi, or this guy had his app rejected and decided to cast it in a partisan light by only talking about pelosi to get some press. I'm betting on the second. And hey - it worked. The guy got national coverage for his app on Fox News

To give you an idea of the ludicrousness of the iPhone store.

They rejected an iPhone app by the main apple magazine that was a guide to using the iphone because it used "iphone" in the name of its guide
