I don't have much sympathy for people that kill for money. If those mercenaries were "loyal and honorable" they should join the regular army and endure the hellish conditions and mediocre pay that any good soldier has to endure.

And why did they leave the regular army?

Because they're in it (war) for the money. They want the cash and the bling-bling and the luxury.

Regular army soldiers get paid a decent salary. It is not grand, but it is the national average.

(around $40,000 a year)

That gives about $3000 a month.

They also get free healthcare, free college, free housing, and discounts at hundreds of businesses.

Are mercenaries any better than soldiers at fighting? No.

If the records are correct from what we've seen in Iraq, Blackwater/Xe is actually incompetent compared to the real army.

The only way that someone can be "loyal and honorable" is to work in the government sector?


-Doctors at the VA are loyal and honorable while all others are not.
-Teachers at public schools and universities are loyal and honorable while all others are not.
-Prosecutors/public defenders are loyal and honorable while all other lawyers are not.
-The coachs for the US national teams are loyal and honorable while Bill Belichick is not.

Actually, you might be on to something...

Doctors, teachers, lawyers, and coaches do not kill for money.

Mercenaries kill for money.

If you're going to kill for money, at least do it while serving the people of your nation (via their democratically-elected government).

Don't kill to make Eric Prince rich. That's immoral in my view.

Every contract the government hands out makes someone rich. When the government pays Boeing to develop jets to kill people, it makes Boeing rich. When the government pays Raytheon to build Tomahawk missiles to kill people, it makes Raytheon rich. When the government pays Colt to manufacture M-16s to kill people, it makes Colt rich.

Why is this different?

Imagine if in a time of war, they simply turned against us when the enemy drops gold bars on them?

Indendent contractors will always place profit before honor. There is no job that Blackwater or other private army performs that cannot be performed better by a US serviceman or woman. People carrying guns in the name of the US need to be accountable, the only way that can happen is if they are in the military.
