Modern Warfare 2 Opens with Terror

Maybe someone will come up with an interactive "Holocaust" game. It could start out, actually bulding your own death camp, then round up the Jews, kill them. Hell, there could be a , "Nuremberg", version to go along with it, where all the Nazis can be found innocent and go free. Hell, Hitler could even survive the war in that game. it could coincide with an interactive 9/11 game, where you get to pilot one of the aircraft into your building of choice: Sear Tower, Prudential Building, any given state capital, etc.

Is everyone else as psyched as I am about crap like this?

I think you just killed it.

Oh, my bad. I thought I was discussing how some warped mother****er created a computer game where the gamers were the terrorists and murdered people. Did I miss something?

See, I don't understand people who are so against video games. They just don't like the fact that people enjoy video games for what it is.

You hear about the argument of "desensitizing" children from feeling pain, and about glorifying violence, leading them to act reckless because they begin to believe they have "extra lives" or some **** like that. You guys complain about video games being too much of a fantasy and leading children to a path of destruction.

Now? It's the reverse, "Oh it's too realistic". Children shouldn't be learning how to kill civilians and blah blah blah blah blah.

It's a ****ing video game. Screw your social conservative bull****.

I'm not against video games. I'm not into them, but I think they really kewl. I just think that creating a game where the players get to be terrorists is just too much.

So, you would be cool with a Holocaust game? How 'bout a KKK game, where a p/u truck load of klansmen shoot up a black neighborhood? Just a video game, right?

Like I said, it separates itself from the kids games and into the adult games.

Leave it to the market. If consumers don't like it, it won't be successful. Or do you support liberal policies on limiting entrepreneurship?

I prefer common ****ing sense, but that's just me.

My point, in my first post on this thread, was in response to the lack of outrage at the game, because it's just a game. I was curious to see if those same people would cool with a game where you get to kill household pets, or some other act that is a helluva lot less PC. Would you be ok with a game where you bury house cats up to their necks, then run them over a with a lawnmower? Would you still be as blazais about it?

Hell, it's just a game.

Why do you expect video games to be PC? Are video games a platform for politics? Please get a clue.

And just to answer your question, Yea, I'd play that game. I probably won't buy because it sounds dumb, but I've played flashgames online that are similar to that. What's the big deal?

Something similar to this has been done, though in a different way. You follow certain steps, and you end up mirroring the holocaust, and don't even realize it until the end. I forget the name, but it is supposedly pretty effective and gives a real jolt to people when they realize what they have been doing.

Did I miss something?
Lol yep. You obviously missed:

Independant games

Muslim Massacre

Columbine: The RPG

Ethnic Cleansing (Play as a KKK member or skinhead and run through a city shooting blacks, Mexicans, and Jews. You have to kill Arial Sharone to win the game.)

Mainstream games

Command and Conquer: Generals (Play as terrorists and murder US soldiers and civilians with suicide bombers, anthrax, nukes, etc)

Manhunt 1 and 2 (Play as a serial killer and kill people for a snuff film)

Gran Theft Auto series (Shot cops, rape and murder hookers, etc)

Carmaggeddon (Run over people with cars to earn points)

Hitman series (Play as an assassin and kill or torture people for hire)

The Punisher (Throw people in wood-chippers and ovens, smash their faces in with hammers, blow their heads off with shotguns, etc)

The Godfather

Reservoir Dogs

Custer's Revenge [1982 arcade game] (Play as a naked cowboy and dodge arrows so you can rape a tied-up Native American woman at the end of the stage)

---

These are just the ones I could name off hand. And you're screaming "Oh my! Someone finally made a game where you can be a terrorist and kill civilians!" :rofl

The purpose of this game is to kill the terrorists anyway. You just very old.

It is an argument that from afar we are desensitized from violence with media, but I would argue, up close, we are all in the same boat of being horrified by it.

Not only am I gonna buy this game, but I'm gonna play a terrorist and kill the **** out of some innocent people. Cause it's a video game. It's not real.

:2wave:

I mentioned briefly a game earlier that I had to look up. Not a video/computer game, but very interesting and in some way shocking: Play This Thing! | Game Reviews | Free Games | Independent Games | Game Culture

In terms of mechanics, Train is a relatively conventional roll-and-move, race-to-the-end game. Each turn you roll a die and either add that many passengers to your train car, or move your train car that many spaces forward. The objective is to deliver passengers to a series of locations, the names of which are printed on “terminus” cards. To give the play more of a German-game aesthetic, event cards are introduced that allow you to speed your car forward, switch tracks, block other people’s forward progress, take over other players’ cars, or derail a train car.

It doesn’t take very long for the first person to reach the end of the track with their first load of passengers. And they turn over the card and discover that their destination was Auschwitz.

With the flip of one card, you realize what you have done during play. You crammed a bunch of wooden pawns uncomfortably into your train car, even stacking them on top of each other, because you thought it didn’t matter. You played cards to speed your train to its destination. You played intelligently and optimized the mechanics in your favor, and you won. And that means you lost.

AP... while I respect your opinion I disagree with your logic.. or at least don't understand it. You say you are for "****ing common sense" but you obviously feel people who play these things are somehow lacking in "****ing common sense?" Certainly you just suggested that people who make these games/play them, are lacking in "****ing common sense?"

Please inform me how an adult playing a game as a Counter Terrorist (put into the eyes of a terrorist to show the player what a horrible group of scum the enemy is) somehow lacks common sense?

It seems you may have "****ing common sense" but apparently you have a hard time believing others can seperate fantasy from reality?

Terrorist/us = the new ninja/samurai.

I saw the nonchalant POV that people were taking towards this particular game and was curious to know if the same POV would exist against other games of that nature, but on different historical events.

I believe that common sense if the most lacking commodity in our society today. I see it all the time.

The whole point of the scene is to show you what a*sholes the terrorists are. It isn't advocating murder

I'm so playing this it's not even funny. It's a game. People can get over it.

IGN: Modern Warfare 2 Opens with Terror

But there's more, Activision confirmed this.

Well there it is, I wonder how much "outrage" this is going to produce. There's a scene in Modern Warfare 2 where you play on the terrorists side and shoot up civilians apparently in a very bloody and realistic manner (though I wonder if it could be a realistic as Condemned....that game was creepy real). For me, it's not going to change my purchase. I thought Modern Warfare 1 was a great FPS and I look forward to 2 coming out. It has some cool multiplayer stuff. But I also don't see a big deal with this either. Australia is pissed off over it, but it's just a game. And it is a game centered around fighting terrorists, so whatever. I think any involvement by the government on this front would only be nanny state.

So you expect people who play these games to be upset if the historical events where even less PC? :doh

If common sense slapped you in the face, you wouldn't even feel a thing.

Perhaps you'll understand when you growup.

Excuse me, AP, just because you cannot defend your weak argument does not mean you can go around insulting other people on these boards. A person asks you to defend your position and you're response is "Perhaps you will understand when you grow up." I love it. That just proves you have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

People should be able to make games with whatever they want in it. We see this in movies all the time. We see rape in fictional movies, books, all the time. Get over it. There is no victim in this game, no crime, no harm no foul.

Most people when playing this game are gonna wanna go after the Terrorists after this incident. I highly doubt someone is gonna go try and mimic this event, if that's what you are afraid of. If people are going to go do something like this, trust me, they already have the idea in their head from previous historical events.

Let me ask you a better question dear, what do you propose should be done about this game, if anything? Or even better what do you think should happen to Activision/Infinity Ward? (the company that produced this game). I'm interested to see if you truly believe in the ramblings of your previous posts, or if you will just fold and say "nothing should be done."

His attitude towards this strikes me as much more mature than the kneejerk pissed off reaction.

Uh-huh!!
