Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

You are a minion because you did it at someone else's bidding..... ;)

I am willing to assume there were a good number of people interested in your... views....

I made a statement and stand by it. I believe the Justice of the Peace should be left alone and support his decision. He is doing the right thing. He has the right to deny this marriage license. This is America. He has the freedom of speech and expression of his views.

You do know that he works for the government and his rights as a citizen have nothing to do with his job right?

Oh thats rich; the majority of the worlds poor choose to be.

Maybe you can answer what people choosing to be poor has to do with the topic as well?

Who the hell was ever talking about anyone outside the US?

Did the JP in the OP have international jurisdiction?

Everything I've said on this thread is in context to where the JP's actions occurred unless I've specifically stated otherwise.

Yes, if you're poor in America, you either chose to be poor or you have a severe disability; and even then, Steven Hawking FTW ;)

So let me get this straight; the 3 million + people who have lost their jobs this year (in the US) had a choice?:doh

Wrong!

Whether you want to admit it or not, business cycles take a nasty toll on the societies in which they encompass. But.... I will relate this to the OP.

You have stated on numerous occasions that you support the logic of this particular JoP because he references a correlating statistic in his conclusion.
-----interracial marriages have a propensity to end in divorce, and we must of course think about the children-----

People with economic disadvantages are just as likely to marry as other people, but their marriages are substantially more unstable.

Married and Poor: Basic Characteristics of Economically Disadvantaged Couples in the U.S. - Working Paper

Why does this JoP stop at race? There is a stronger correlation in regards to income (you know poverty), and we all know that children who come from poor families have far less advantages, across the board, when compared to children who come from "not poor" families.

Borrowing from your logic; should the government put income restrictions on the basis of obtaining a legal marriage license, because being low income is a choice?

I say absolutely not. First of all, it is faulty logic. Secondly, doing so will only force more out of wedlock children in low income populations, which has been shown to have a drastic effect on both the income of the parent and future income of the child(ren).

Although, if the JoP had used income as opposed to race as his premise, we would not even be discussing this. Not that it is a particularly good argument, but he would not have displayed his racist views for the country to see.

I'd link to my real life example but forum rules don't allow people to link to the Basement from upstairs.

I am one of those 3 million who lost a job this year. I found another job the same ****ing day, so I'm not going to listen to any of your bull****.

The choice I was presented with: Take a near minimum-wage job or be unemployed. That was the choice, and I made the decision.

I have no sympathy for those who are able to work yet choose otherwise.

What I don't think you are taking into account is the fact that you probably look employable.....
I'm guessing that you didn't show up for your interview with your pants half way down your azz, underwear hanging out with your "SOX" hat on backwards...
There are a bunch of unemployed people that look....well....unemployable....
If you look like that, your I'd wager your attitude is not far behind...
I ain't gonna hire you looking like that.....
A lot of the cause for whining is self inflicted...
These fine young lads took it upon themselves to start a 'family' businees when faced with the spectre of unemployment, they took to the American dream of entrepreneurship...Enjoy!....:)

It's not like the local Department of Labor office doesn't offer FREE classes on how to interview, make a resume', etc.

There's no excuse.

You didn't lose your job due to the economy.

It has nothing to do with bull****, you have come off particularly ignorant in regards to basic economic principles, specifically labor market scarcity. So while you had the opportunity to be under employed, that is not an option for everyone, as exemplified by scarcity.

Secondly, learn the concept of unemployment before you prescribe Dave Ramsey solutions. Unemployment does not constitute people who are out of the labor force; only those who are ACTIVELY LOOKING in the labor market but for some reason, are unable to find employment. Otherwise, are we to assume that in 1932, people were just being lazy?

To state cyclical unemployment is a choice is quite naive.....

The choice I was presented with: Take a near minimum-wage job or be unemployed. That was the choice, and I made the decision.

Then you were only unemployed for less than a day, and now maintain an underemployment status. Are you aware higher than normal underemployment is a sign that the economy is nowhere near full employment?

I have no sympathy for those who are able to work yet choose otherwise.

Neither do I. But we are not necessarily talking about those who are unemployed, so the point is moot.

Nobody chooses to be born of a non white race, nor do they choose to be born a female, with disabilities, in a lower economic class, in sub-Saharan Africa, etc...

Similarly, nobody chooses to be unemployed (not taking into consideration the natural rate of unemployment;) ).... NOBODY! Otherwise the term has no meaning. This black man did not choose to be born black, and by your ****ed up logic, you believe because of something that is not of his direct choice, he has no business marrying a white woman?

They do choose to not attend school, deal in drugs, not take they studies seriously, and look for handouts.

You are correct that minorities are more actively engaged in what are considered non productive endeavors. But.... Why?

Why is the rate of unemployment for black teenagers over 25%? Notice i use the term unemployment, and not "percentage of black teenagers without a job" (significant difference).

Are we to assume that someone born black is less capable if and of itself? Of course not, and we can quickly dichotomize the racist sentiment.

So i ask again, because this man is born black (not a choice), he does not deserve the opportunity to marry the person of his choice?

Maybe they don't like family values.
