Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

Question: Would it be acceptable for a restaurant to choose not to serve an interracial couple based on correlation of some odd statistic?

Assume (i am making this up) their was some weird statistic that stated interracial customers are the worst tippers, and all of the staff said they do not want to serve them because "the statistics state".

I hate saying this, i really do. Correlation does not equal causation.

Again, it comes down to whether or not he is payed for by the state or a private employee.

I agree if he is state payed, then yes, he should have to perform it.

Assuming he isn't a state payed employee, where do you draw the line for the rights of the individual? For instance if I choose not to sell my own personal car to a black man, should I be forced to do it anyway?

I agree the reasoning this guy uses is idiotic, but I think if he isn't a state payed employee he should have the right to marry who he wishes just as those that don't like it don't have to go to him.

There is risk assuming the public/private discrepancy induces segregation, and the thought that it is acceptable. Naturally, people self segregate as ethnicity tends to inhabit areas homogeneously. This is not the argument here.

If you make it known you are not renting to a family based on race, and make it well known to them, the renter is setting themselves up for a discrimination lawsuit.

Not only do JOP's not get paid by the state, they have to come out of their own pocket to become a licensed JOP.

So, 1) Nope, marry who you want to marry, but I do believe that he acted in a manner that he thought was appropriate & within his purview....
2) I agree with his assertion of blacks, (or whatever the PC term is) of "trading up", so to speak....
This I have multiple, first hand experience/knowledge of....
