1. House democrats today voted down a GOP resolution to remove Charlie Rangel, the most corrupt man in Washington, from his chairmanship of Ways and Means, the most powerful committee in the capitol and the agency most responsible for writing tax law.

2. Rangel is at risk for a multitude of malfeasances to which the greasy slickster has publicly ADMITTED.

3. He failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars of income he's earned from his beachfront property in the Dominican Republic.

4. He used FOUR rent-controlled apartments in New York.

5. He elicited donations from supporters via letters written on congressional stationary, a terribly troublesome transgression to the rectors.

6. He parked his collectors Mercedes, unlicensed and sporting no plates, free of charge for years in the House garage, which limits stays there to 45 days.

7. He claimed homestead tax breaks on his DC house while living in NY.

8. He gave $80,000 of campaign funds to his son to set up an amateurish, error strewn PAC website.

9. In August, he amended his income statements to include an additional half million to million dollars of assetts previously undisclosed.

10. He failed to pay property taxes on two holdings in New Jersey.

11. In September, he handed what appears to be hush money to three House ethicists, Ben Chandler, GK Butterfield and Peter Welch.

12. Rangel has been under Ethics Committee investigation for a year.

13. Yet everyone knows exactly what he's done and who he is.

14. He's a poster boy for his party's ruptured promises to operate a parliament open and corruption-free.

15. Six democrats aside from Rangel are currently under investigation, the most memorable being John Murtha, chair of Appropriations on Defense.

16. Murtha, it is known, steered 26 earmarks worth $93 million to clients of PMA, a defense industry lobbyist founded by a former Murtha aid.

17. On the other hand, PMA donated $1.7 million to the craggy chairman's campaigns.

18. Ms Pelosi and her pals have apparently forgotten how the indiscretions of Mark Foley and Duke Cunningham were instrumental in delivering to her and her partisans the House in 2006.

19. Members like Rangel and Murtha seem to believe rules are for other people, little folk, like you and me.

20. It appears that principles don't apply to powerful people like the oily slickster and craggy old congressman.

GOP fails in third effort to remove Rangel - Sacramento Politics - California Politics | Sacramento Bee

House Republicans failed Wednesday for a third time to oust Rep. Charles Rangel as chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, but they kept the political spotlight on his ethical problems.

The House voted 246-153 along mostly partisan lines to refer a GOP resolution to remove Rangel to the House ethics committee. The Democratic maneuver rendered the Republican effort meaningless, since Democratic leaders have said they have no intention of removing Rangel while the ethics committee is conducting a long-term investigation of his conduct.

I would have been quite surprised had they been able to accomplish his removal. In the end another corrupt official would have taken his place however .....:/

isn't amazing that this friggin crook can remain in office?!

Wrangel is the classic example of political hubris. The SOB should be in jail.

*crickets*

You'd think they'd be bragging.

Rangel is bad, but Murtha makes my skin crawl.

Have you read about the $200 million he's funneled to the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, PA that has three commercial flights per day. It got a $8 million dollar radar system in 2004 that is not staffed to this day.

He's a first class sleaze bag.

I hope the Republicans put Pelosi's words on tv 24 hours a day during next years elections promising to clean up Washington.

Murtha is a fat pig who has shamed his constituents. There are lots of them in Congress, but for a former Marine he has brought shame on himself.

Wow, sounds like Term Limits could solve a lot of these problems...

What constantly amazes me is that Democrats will defend their crooks to the end (with the help of the mainstream media) while Republicans throw theirs under the bus. And yet they claim that Republicans are the culture of corruption. Why is it that 14 of 17 members of congress being investigated by the ethics committee are Democrats yet the MSM still refuses to cover them in the same manner as they would if they were Republicans?

More selected outrage.

Is it bad, sure, but come on... where have you guys been the last 10 years when the Republican's ran congress and the White House...

Let me answer that...

Defending every piece of corrupt deviant scum on the right.

No, as Easy Target said, conservatives throw their miscreants under bus.

You see, we're loyal to our core values. Democrats are loyal to their pop stars.

Please provide us with all that corruption and how it was defended to the death. Sources?

They do?

Okay lets look at some history first.

Bob Ney.. did the Republicans kick him to the curb? No, he was allowed to keep his job for 2 months after he admitted to corruption. What did the Republican's do... demanded he resigned.. which he did not, and then what did they do? Nothing.

How about our favourite gay paedophile? Mark Foley... what did the Republican's do? Not only did they cover for him for years, but when he finally was caught, key Republican's had the balls (or rather non-brain) to defend him at least indirectly.

Or how about our favourite Alaskan. Scandal after scandal and yet she is still a darling of the right. Ups forgot to pay some taxes.. okie dokie no problem, crap happens. Ups I got paid to live and eat in my own home... no problem, nothing wrong in that, just pay the money back.. or the 150k in cloths that poofed into garbage bags?

Tom Delay... Bill Frist? How about them?

There are many more, and yes many are not sitting congressmen any more.. most were defeated by Democrats or went to jail.

And if we go to sitting Republicans.

How about Vern Buchanan, or Ken Clavert, or Nathan Deal or John Ensign or Jerry Lewis or Mitch McConnel or Don Young? All are on the most corrupt list by CREW, the same list as Rangel and Murtha. Are you saying that Rangel and Murtha deserve to be on the list but the Republican's do not?

I invite you to produce similar examples (not fantasies,) of such recent behavior from the Republicans, and a concerted attempt by that party to shield the perpetrator from removal from committees, or prosecution. The clock is running . . GO!

You have got to be kidding.. are you in that much denial? Are you saying that there was NO corruption by Republican's during the last decade?

Cunningham? Abramoff scandal (yes both sides were involved but more Republican's than Democrats), Bob Ney (as I mentioned), Foley... or how about the accusations against the list of Republicans I posted....all sitting Republicans, including a leader for god sake.

That is complete and utter BS. Who here in this thread is defending Rangel? If he is guilty of evading taxes, then the book should get thrown at him. Let's just hope that he doesn't end up on "Dancing with the Stars" like some other crook I know.

Which crook would that be?
