CD&V wants to legalize sex at 14

I think they just leave the age of consent for girls up to their fathers. When the shotgun stays in the rack, you know you're old enough.
 
That sounds like a pleasant idea, except for the minor lack of residence in Saudi Arabia that might render that somewhat out of place.

Well, no, you made an interesting point. Age of consent laws have directly patriarchal origins; they were first devised in the early Middle Ages so that fathers could seek violent punishment for men who violated the "chastity" of their daughters before marriage, which is the reason that equal application of such laws to males was a marginal policy until the early 1980's. Some of us simply aren't of the opinion that we should preserve such blatantly authoritarian and coercive arrangements. :shrug:

Haha, by that standard, I think the age of consent would be mid-30s for a lot of girls. :lol:

No, I was the 14 yr old that you would have been killing people over for no reason. I can tell you from experience that having sex at a young age isn't traumatic, I was in no way harmed by it, and from the perspective of the 'victim' the only difference between doing it with someone your own age and someone older is a sense of pride at scoring a college chick as a high school freshman.

What is traumatic is society telling a young person who had consensual sex that they are supposed to be a victim, and that there is something wrong with them if they don't feel like one.

I'm 21...and when I see people aged 18 I wonder what the **** they're doing at university
