Airline asks passengers to use the toilet before boarding...

All Nippon Airways (ANA) claims that empty bladders mean lighter passengers, a lighter aircraft and thus lower fuel use.

Airline staff will be present at boarding gates in terminals to ask passengers waiting to fly to relieve themselves before boarding, The Independent reported.

ANA hopes the weight saved will lead to a five-tonne reduction in carbon emissions over the course of 30 days.

Yes, I think the rationale they present is absurd.

I hate to derail this so early, but PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who can picture a giant letter "L" painted at the base of that tail...

Most likely their real reason is to avoid early passenger trips to the airplane bathroom...

I would think anybody who has flown and has had the misfortune of sitting in the back couple of rows of seats would support this idea heartily!

If you can't go, or don't have to, will you not be allowed to board? Are they going to demand proof that you went?

Won't all the water wasted by flushing consume more energy than they would be saving?

They can make the plane even lighter by not having passengers.

Remember when flying commercially didn't suck?

Yeah, me neither.

It's crap like this that makes people think that all green movement ideas are stupid.

Which is unfortunate, because there are a few that are pretty decent.

I wonder if they are cutting back on their lavatory flush water that the plane carries, and that's where they save the weight.

Perhaps the carry a lot of Conservative Republicans:)
