Anyone who thinks Fox news is really 'fair and balanced' is deluding themselves. This article is so blatantly biased, it's laughable

I still appreciate the fact that Fox News exists and they, like the liberal press, have their place. But they need to brush up on their finesse in hiding their obvious slant to the news a little better, for God's sake! :doh

Obama's Olympic Failure Highlights Limits of His International Appeal - Political News - FOXNews.com

This wasn't supposed to happen to him.

It may have only been the Olympics but President Obama's high-profile failure to win the games for Chicago has raised serious questions about his perceived international star power.

The president's last-minute appeal for his home city to host the 2016 Summer Games fell flat when Chicago was knocked out in the first round. The top prize eventually went to Rio de Janeiro.

Now critics are asking: Iif Obama can't sway Olympic officials, how can he wring concessions from Iran on its nuclear program, secure crucial support from allies to overhaul two wars or rebuild the U.S. image in the Middle East?

I disagree.

At best it highlights is how low the US has sunk on the international stage after 8 years of Bush. Rebuilding that trust and aura of might the US use to have before Bush, is not something that happens over night.

Plus more importantly, there were considerable arguments against Chicago that not even Obama could deflect. The US has had so many Olympics, and the last 2 were fiascos in one way or another. Atlanta was seen by most IOC members as lacking the Olympic spirit and many say it was more like a county fair than an Olympics. And then there was the scandalous Salt Lake City games, something the IOC has not forgotten.

On top of that the restrictive aspect of getting into the US also was a prime factor in not taking Chicago. The US is not exactly "friendly" when it comes to visitors these days. It is often easier to get an appointment with a UHC specialist in Canada than getting into the US. And that is not Obama's fault.. that is Bush's. As the only candidate, the US delegation was asked this by the IOC.. so it was a big factor.

Plus... Rio was in a continent that has never had the Olympics. I can not emphasise the importance of this. Rio had by far the worst infrastructure and crime problems and yet they won alone based on this and the passion behind the bid. If there had been any logic in the matter, then it should have gone to Madrid based on the infrastructure alone and low cost. But the IOC has never been about logic, but all about passion for the Olympics and setting a "mark". Rio met all these points.

I thought this was the breaking news forum. My comment on this article is that it is slanted. It doesn't seem to be reporting, it seems to be an opinion piece.

Everyone basically believe that Obamas perspective is blinded by the regular US nationalism and that his attempt was corrupt and fake.

What kind of silly person would appeal to have the olympics in their city by talking about irrelevant stuff.. Talking to people around the globe is not like talking to people in the US. A story that wakes feelings but is irrelevant do not automaticallz brainwash people into having the same opinion as he says they must after the cry cry story and all the silly irrelevant stuff.

I cannot believe this.

9 months into Obama's presidency the liberals are still blaming Bush?

Why is it biased to point out the Barack Obama's international appeal has it's limits & his appearance on the IOC's stage wasn't enough to secure the 2016 games for Chicago?

That's my take also.

Apparently, Bush is a much more towering figure for some people.

Its hardly a surprise, Obama is leading the US into isolationism, not an out and out isolationism as before, but its clear that the Obama administration won't be involved as heavily internationaly as Bush was, Obama is much more focused on dealing with domestic issues, at least thats what it looks to someone on the outside...

Maximus, try to bear in mind that the U.S., Europe, Australia, a few other Euro centric nations, and a handful of other states are the only serious countries in Earth. All others are little more than problem areas and fodder for American documentary programs.

Such places need to just chill out for a while, and wait to be properly assimilated into superior cultures, OK?

Right.. Thats what the majority in the west belief..

Such gruesome ignorance.

Think about the poor brazilians and their lack of capitalist paper cash.. It doesnt matter that their lifestyle is superior, their health magnificent compared to fat blobs in Europe and the US. But then again, thats not shown in GDP, so it doesnt matter

How nice for them. And if Brazil evaporated overnight, how much impact would that have on the rest of the world? Answer: very little.

By the way, before becoming too passionate about the wonderful life of the Brazilian, I'd suggest you get to know a few poor ones and a few rich ones -- most instructive!

What we all should want is something in between everywhere and all models as oppose to gripping to one model or country and pointing of the lacks of things in another.

The lacks are what should be fixed..

If we do not find a balance, the human race moves ever closer to its death.

The Human race is dynamic, not static. We lunge, stride, run, fall, climb, slide and retreat. It's not really about balance, it's about controlling the imbalance that creates motion. Or to quote a Disney movie, "it's a nightmare, but it's one exciting ride!"

Rocks are balanced.

And as a matter of simple fact, all living things are constantly moving towards their deaths.

The obvious slant in the title is further evidence of FNCs biased and unbalanced reporting of the news.

Please move this thread to Bias in the media. Because that's what it is an example of.

America had the Olympics in 96 they shouldnt expect to get them back so soon.If it where up to me Chicago could have the 2012 instead of london im not looking forward to have so many of the worlds dullest sports rammed down my throat.Lets see how far someone can throw a stick, lets see how far someone can throw a ball, lets watch someone jump high.

Heck, I'm still seeing crap about Carter and Clinton. :doh

In any event, the article cited is not even fit to be toilet paper.

Pure and utter garbage.

Yes, Brazil is so superior, with their famous street children and squalid slums. Hopefully they can get that cleaned up in time to put on a veneer of cheerfulness before the Olympics...

Most of Obama's presidency has been spent trying to fix the utter failure that was the past administration.

Yeah, health care has everything to do with Bush's failures

The IOC considers a bunch of things when selecting a city... like which city has the best ideas for facilities, which city can pull off the games the best, and most importantly, which country has never had them before.

To my knowledge, Brazil has never had the Olympics before, and it has the money to host the games. It makes more sense to give it to them than Chicago.
