US relinquishes control of the internet

But that is indeed what Obama wants to do; relinquish control to the UN. After all, he even claimed that Afghanistan was not our war didn't he?

How is that being "squandered"?

And it's hardly "paranoia"; look at what places like China already do.

Yeah and they do it badly. Porn still comes through unfettered, and dissident sites. The Chinese gov. has 60,000 people employed around the clock to block websites, and even they cannot stop them all. So what does that tell you about the nature of the internet?

The overwhelming majority of content blocked in China is content in Mandarin. Most English sites, even ones that openly criticize China, can be accessed readily. China will continue to block content meant for the eyes of its own people, but it isn't blocking very many English sites because it doesn't want to alienate business.

The idea that China could gain control of the internet through this policy is absurd. China can't even control the flow into its own country.
