Obama going to Denmark to pitch Chicago Olympics

it's an issue to you ONLY because it's obama. i think what he's doing is worthwhile. as i said, the olympics is a world stage, and we could use a shot in the arm.

Yeah, if we're lucky we'll only lose 3/4 of a billion dollars if the Olympics come to Chicago. Athens lost over a billion in the 2004 Olympics. They spent over 14 billion dollars building venues, most of which sit empty now.

Yeah, we really need a shot in the arm like that. Of course, Obama's Chicago union buddies will love it.

so? an international committee awards the site. what's the problem?

I would be agreeing with some of the outrage here if he was actually vacationing while over there. Or if it was some week long confrence he was attending.

All in all it probably took literally an hour or two out of his work day. Unless you are against a president going for a run, or mountain biking, or having a bit of personal time to spend with his wife and kids, or to go watch a game, or anything like that....then how can you be against this? At least unlike those things it actually has a political and diplomatic purpose to it.

How is this any difference than having the Superbowl champs to the White House? When we just had 9/11 hit a few months before did Bush focus on terrorism and not invite the 2001 Super Bowl winners to the White House? When we were embroiled in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, what about then? What about when the economy was first having troulbe and bailouts started to be talked about? During the Immigration issues? Were you and others on here screaming how he's not setting his "priorities" by having Super Bowl champions come to the white house for a photo op and food?

And again, this at least has iternational diplomatic ramifications on it as well as something that potentially shines a positive light on America; far better bonus's than welcoming Bill Bellichek and his camera up to the White House.

If you want to bitch about Leno or ESPN you won't find me disagreeing, I'll be standing here beside you.

This is a poor fight and is far and away different than Leno or ESPN.

Strawman.

I am sure he can work. The time for "working" is over.

He has talked to leno, more than he has talked to his commander in A-stan.

He thinks its more important to grab credit for the olympics than it is to deal with the wars.

again, complaining about nothing.

Um, everyone is acting like he can't work on airforce one. He doesn't need to use snail mail people. He has teleconferencing, e-mail, and phones to work with. He was only on the ground a few hours and then back in the plane to WORK. I don't get it. You all act like he goes into some box while traveling and has no way to work with people while there.

Your question is without any basis in fact. He is a stateman and a damn good one. I'm not sure how you can say he hasn't done any "work." That's absurd.

This is the first managerial/policy-making job that Obama has ever held, and it is as our CEO. It's quite a different role than "statesman."

He is sending a message to the troops, that the olympics are more important than they are....

I worried that he would believe that figurehead/speechmaker would be his perception of what the job is, but frankly, I think that CEO means a LOT of administrative work.

I voted for him, but it was and is a worry.

My problem is that it doesn't seem like Obama has done much at all. All I see the man doing is giving speeches on this and that. Trying to pass some horrible healthcare plan which is only a play to the insurance companies. Meanwhile, we're still in Iraq, still in Afghanistan, Gitmo ain't closed, still doing domestic spying, expanding the Patriot Act, etc. Nothing is changing, nothing is getting done, nothing is moving forward. I'm sick of it. All we get each and every time is bigger, more intrusive government. Powers put together in such a way as it can siphon money from all of us, give it to whomever their [government's] buddies are at the time, and work in such horrible ways as to never be able to benefit the People.

And I also honestly don't believe Obama would be in Copenhagen right now if it wasn't Chicago trying to get the games.

But hey, he's done a lot for gay rights and to overturn "don't ask."

That's progress, I tell you. I mean, they've practically evacuated Gitmo. And, torture is done. Except, of course, in those hidden prisons overseas.

And the patriot act? That's all ancient history.

If Bush did this, I'd be just as pissed. Please, because I don't bow down to your king, does not mean I am pissed at him for ignoring the troops for political reasons.

Funny rev i did a search of your posts on afghanistan from a year ago and beyond and didnt see you creating multiple threads about bush going on vacation while people were asking for more troops in afghanistan. None when generals were complaining about his lack of care for afghanistan. No complaints when troops were dying in afghanistan and bush attended the olympics. Yeah just more concern trolling and "selective outrage" from the good reverend

On that same note, I had no problem with Obama's vacation to martha's vineyard.... These are apples to apples to me, not the olympics, not leno, not 1 contact in 70 days with the commander of a-stan.

None of the first thing have anything to do with the second. This is all phony outrage and over the top stupid rhetoric. If somehow this was preventing Obama from doing his job in any way, you might have a tiny, remote point, but in fact it does not effect his job so you have no point at all. It's just latching onto something convenient to bitch and have a hissy about.

The lives of the troops are "nothing" to you? He is sending a message to the troops, that the olympics are more important than they are....

What message did George Bush send to our troops during his four-day happy fun time in COMMUNIST (!!!) China to chat up bikini-clad hotties

This should be more of a job for officials in Chicago, Obama has more pressing issues to deal with.

I disagree, and here is why:

Getting the Olympics in Chicago will not only help the Chicago economy, but will help the economy of America in general. A lot of things will have to be purchased, and we are talking about approximately 10 billion in economic stimulus. And guess what else? That stimulus money will come mostly from the private sector. No government bailouts, and no government stimulus money. This is free money for the American economy, folks, so why not go after it? Obama makes the trip, and talks to Olympic committee, and here is what happens:

1) They choose another city, and we are out no more money than a plane trip.

2) They choose Chicago, and a little badly needed money to help jump start the economy starts rolling in.

To me, this is a no-brainer. Obama has charmed Europe already, so maybe
he can charm them again, and do a little something for the economy in the process. It won't be much of a boost for the economy, but a little is surely better than nothing.

How many topics did rev create regarding bushs trip to china to attend the olympics while troops died in afghanistan and people were calling for more attention on that war? 0

Nothing wrong with looking at a little ass, now and then. Just because they are politicians doesn't mean they are any less human. Politicians love ass just as much as anybody else.

The last olympics held here in Salt Lake City cost the taxpayers 625 million dollars, about $1 of every $3 spent.

Olympics are VERY expensive. Athens cost 7.2 billion Euros or over 10 billion dollars.

Can we afford that?

Actually, according to the good Reverand, if it is not job related, he is not focusing on the troops that have died.

Nope. I didn't say he was drunk. I said he MAYBE had a few. Given his asinine non-presidential behavior and the embarrassing pictures we've seen of his antics during his four-day Communist fun fest (WHILE TROOPS DIED!!!!), it's a fair assessment.

Hell, the guy couldn't even get up out of his seat without help...

the cons would have a freaking embolism.
