Obama going to Denmark to pitch Chicago Olympics

That's it, totally. Right now, I consider his plate full of work that America needs HIM to perform.

I would be glad that he was distracted so much as he is.

Execpt we have troops in harms way who are essentially in limbo, being shot at, waiting for Obama to approve a strategy.

Just heard on the radio. a decision should come in "weeks" not "months" :doh

Someone didn't see his Hall of Fame Speech ;)

He'd probably tell the IOC how they pissed him off at some point in the past and give a great story how he used that to fuel him on the dream team and then smacked one of the IOC's kids while depantsing another one in the opening ceremonies just to show them that Michael Jordan is competitive.....

As to Catz...

I won't lie here. Its the unabashed nationalist in me at times. Its the same reason that by god I want to see us bring home the gold each and every time in each and every event. No disrespect to other countries, but I love mine and when given the choice of promoting it on the world stage I will just about always side with it. If we had it EVERY time I may think differently, but we don't

How about Magic Johnson? He seems like a nice guy.

Actually, I saw it, I'm a huge Bryon Russell fan. And yeah, he acted like an utter douche.

But he is still greatly respected around the world and he DOES represent Chicago better than anyone.

As to Catz...

Wow, that sounds ominous. ;)

I think we're very similar, I'm a big-time nationalist, as well. One of my all-time favorite movies is Miracle.

However, I just think that we are facing the most serious economic crisis we've faced since the Great Depression, and we have more important business to handle right now. It's a matter of priorities.

Also, I saw how corrupt the Olympic bid system is when I lived in Salt Lake. MEH.

As I said, I believe (I heard it on a radio news blip so may be wrong), that the heads of state of each of the other three host cities were personally coming to speak before the IOC. If that is the case the correct nationally diplomatic thing and protocol to do would be to ALSO show up instead of making it that the United States of the America is the only country that appears so disdainful of the Olympics and believe its so unimportant that it does not show it the same respect that the other host countries are.

It amazes me that those that can rally behind the notion that you need a CONSTITUTIONAL amendment to ban flag burning because its unpatriotic are going to have vitriol for a man for attempting attempting to make sure that the U.S. plays host to an international event of immense proportions dating back through numerous y ears and a history of great importance that would turn all eyes onto America, both in countries that dislike us and like us, to see and show our country and our culture.

I don't care if this was Bush lobbying it for (God help me) Dallas if he was in and that was the host city. If other heads of state are NOT lobbying for it, then I agree, he shouldn't go. But if htey are, he should definitely not have the U.S. be the disrespectful schlub who mails it in essentially.

To use an olympic analogy. If the other countries are sending their best I want to send the Dream Team over and make sure we ourselves a gold and show that we are the best, not send over the scrubs we sent over to play basketball up to the last olympics.

And in regards to crawford being White House West...

I've heard you say you have a history in IT. You can't tell me you honestly believe that the President could not be in constant communication and ability to work the entire flight over and the entire time he's outside of that meeting. In reality that meeting may take up...what? A few real "hours" of his time in total that he couldn't be working still? And if that's the case, is it really any different than going mountain biking with Jim Zorn?

I agree with you 100% on the Leno and Letterman stuff. I don't think this is anywhere near the same ball park. One has absolutely zero to do with the Presidency. This at least is involving actual international politics.

Thanks Zyph, agree completely. He was gone a whole 24 hrs and there were other international leaders there.

What do youz guys think ???

I think it's a good thing he doesn't have some sort of actual job to do. Jeeze, this guy has given more speeches than days in office, runs around trying to get the Olympics in Chicago. His wife arrived in Copenhagen with Oprah and the media all fawned over it.

I want Obama to shut up, sit down, and do his damned job.

....Has it been four years yet?

I want Obama to shut up, sit down, and do his damned job.

This is one of the concerns I had about him during the election. When has he ever done a "real" job that wasn't just about giving speeches and being a pretty face? That's what community organizers do, frankly.

See now that's smart.

I think the fix is in, and this is all fake publicity for Obama...

but if it wasn't Jordan would have been the man to do it....
why does it matter who did what in the past? because it's obama? aren't other countries lobbying?

geez....this is a non-issue.

And look at his "community" his organization he was a lawyer for promoted child prostituton, and the childeren of the community he organized are beating each other stupid....

Well to Obama it's more of an issue than deciding what to do with all them troops being shot at while he fiddles....

thank you, thank you, thank you. this is really a pretty telling thread.

Um, everyone is acting like he can't work on airforce one. He doesn't need to use snail mail people. He has teleconferencing, e-mail, and phones to work with. He was only on the ground a few hours and then back in the plane to WORK. I don't get it. You all act like he goes into some box while traveling and has no way to work with people while there.

Your question is without any basis in fact. He is a stateman and a damn good one. I'm not sure how you can say he hasn't done any "work." That's absurd.

Well to Obama it's more of an issue than deciding what to do with all them troops being shot at while he fiddles....
it's an issue to you ONLY because it's obama. i think what he's doing is worthwhile. as i said, the olympics is a world stage, and we could use a shot in the arm.

Strawman.

I am sure he can work. The time for "working" is over.

He has talked to leno, more than he has talked to his commander in A-stan.

He thinks its more important to grab credit for the olympics than it is to deal with the wars.

Yeah, and it's getting real damned annoying. I'm sure the President of the United States has a lot on his plate. He should be reading bills that are being sent to him to sign, he should be doing all sorts of affairs of State. Instead, he's in Copenhagen running his mouth for the most corrupt city in America.

Why is it that we've only been going downhill with Presidents as of late? At some point, I think we deserve and improvement.

If Bush did this, I'd be just as pissed. Please, because I don't bow down to your king, does not mean I am pissed at him for ignoring the troops for political reasons.

you're part of the reason i was drawn to this board. i was hoping to find HONEST discussion. for a conservative, you ain't so bad. thanks.
