House passes resolution criticizing Wilson

The House of Representatives on Tuesday formally admonished Republican Rep. Joe Wilson for shouting "you lie" during President Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress last week.

I do not think that this was needed but I understand why they formally admonished this sorry excuse for a Congressman. If he really did apologize as a gentleman instead of bragging that he was forced into an apology I do not think that the House would have taken this action.

Do you guys hink that this piece Congressional trash was worth the time to formally admonish ?

A fine example of distraction, hypocrisy, audacity and a total waste of taxpayer time and money, .

It was partisan posturing, political grandeur. Wilson called the White House and apologized and they accepted. That should have been the end of it.

Still waiting on an apology for being called a "nazi."

I think everyone should take them time to watch House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's 10 minute remarks before the House of Reps today. His words were very measured, calm & direct to the point & I recommend viewing it.

Of course it wasn't... but the democrats were desperate for any kind of a win, so they latched on to this colossal waste of time.

It was a waste of time indeed but I would say that it was much a a win to admonish that piece of trailer trash from South CAROLINA.

One question:
Did you find the mutli-million dollar impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton a "colossal waste of time"..... & money, or was that different because he was a Democrat?

He did "apologize" but only after he admitted to being forced to by the leadership of the House.

For the sake of keeping the House in order for future addresses I think it was.

Yep...if the Republicans insist on acting like petulant children they need to realize they're gonna get spanked.

WHO CARES ?? That is not the same as a Congressman calling a president a liar. If a Democratic Congressman called President Bush a Nazi or a liar that would be the same. Yet if Pelosi calls a bunch of tin foil hat wearers nazi's who cares. Also if the shoe fits wear it.

So one elected official calling another a name is worse than an elected official labelling the people they are supposed to represent and protect as something un-American?

Absolutely. I don't think it was a waste of time at all. The precedent could not be allowed to stand.

He was compelling - Clyburn even more so. A linup of Republicans got up and spoke about health care, politics, this that and the other thing. After making the case that the rules must be upheld, Clyburn passed every time the debate was his turn. He refused to make it about anything other than what it was - a reprehensible breach of protocol. After calling 5 or 6 speakers, Boehner looked like he clued in that his stream of Republicans wasn't helping the case, so next time the clock turned to Boehner, he said he was ready to close if Cyburn was, Clyburn responded, "I am".

And, oh, btw, people in the gallery broke House rules twice, by clapping and cheering after Republican speakers. They were admonished by the person standing in as speaker the first time, but did it again a second time anyway.

For the sake of keeping the House in order for future addresses I think it was.

That sums it up really well, Tumbles.

This was dumb politically, and a waste of time.

Neat Thing Just Happened

I just lucked out and spoke directly to my congressman on the phone.

Representative Lee Terry was running a telephone townhall and my number got called.

The man was a very gracious host and extremely sensible.

I expressed two points, the first was mostly this, in regards to Joe Wilson :

he should be censured, and it should cost him seniority at least, possibly committee seats. Remember that in a heated outburst, it is possible to shout "liar" even though you meant "disingenuous misrepresenter of legislation". If he takes the censure he earned, like a man, thus establishing precedent for a real cost to the behavior.

Mr. Terry said that loss of seniority or committee seats is reserved for bigger things, but did give some consideration to my point about establishing a precedent of real cost to the behavior

(the second is off topic but I will post for the sake of complete disclosure :) )

on the actual cost of healthcare. . .

Not premiums and co-pays. The bill for the procedure.

A major operation, BANG, 140,000 dollars.

For what ? Six people's time for 4 hours in a clean room and a bunch of disposable sterile plastic.

I realize those people are highly trained, but how much are they charging us there per minute ?

What are they chargin us for that plastic ?
We have a military operating room that is portable for cryin outside.
Thats the real trouble in all of this.
It just doesn't cost that much to do get these procedures accomplished.

Representative Lee Terry was a great host to all the participants and addressed both of my points with clarity and interest.

I would agree with you if Wilson had not continued with his lies the next day onward. If he had apologized to the House of Reps (for breaking THEIR rules & bringing discredit on them...(The House) even Steny Hoyer said the issue would have been dropped.

This is hillarious, it's about the only thing they can pass through Congress. They can't pass a healthcare package.

The screaming "you lie" or any other classless type yelling, screaming, or insulting a guest of the House is NOT the same as a Congresswomanpersonhumanoid having an opinion of protesting rabble.

Be glad to answer that, but not on this thread. I have enough respect for the person who started it, not to take part in derailing it.

I do not think that the admonishment matters to a piece of work such a Joe Wilson. It does not matter to Wilson any more than it matters to that Jackass Kanye guy that Obama called a jackass. Now come to think of it Wilson and kanye are both jackasses and they behave the same way, like jackasses.
