Obama Criticizes Republicans for Blocking Health Care Bill - Political News - FOXNews.com

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said he is confident Congress will pass "a good health care bill," as months of rancor over reforming the nation's health care system seemed to be easing Sunday, with the White House playing down an immediate role for a government insurance option.

At the same time, Obama was critical of Republican opponents who he said were trying to block an overhaul of the nation's heath care system for political gain.

"I believe that we will have enough votes to pass not just any health care bill, but a good health care bill that helps the American people, reduces costs, actually over the long-term controls our deficit. I'm confident that we've got that," Obama said in an interview broadcast Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes. "There are those in the Republican party who think the best thing to do is just to kill reform. That that will be good politics."

Hmmm someone in the White House needs to inform Mr. Obama it's just not some folks in the Republican party who want this thing to be killed off. The last time I looked allot of "AMERICANS" from all sides of the Political Spectrum want this thing to be killed off. but hey typical Demogod attacks blame it on the Republicans and if that doesn't work then go after the So-Called Right Wing Folks never mind the actually truth out there. Once again Mr. Obama is lieing threw his Teeth and he knows it.

....So Republicans aren't trying to block the Health Care bill?

How in the hell are Republicans able to block any legislation, right now?

Please answer the question :

It's okay if you're scared. I know you like avoiding the topic.

That question wasn't directed at me. It was to you, sir. That makes two questions you're forced to answer, my friend. Care to take a shot?

No, because the republicans can't block anything. Obama blaming the republicans would be like you blaming me because you paid your bills late, missed a car payment or bought a bag of shake. Republicans can not stop Obama because they lack the ability to fill-a-buster, just like I lack the ability to delay your mailman or bank or hide you bills so that your payments will be late or make your dealer sell you a bag of shake.

In the words of Michael Steele: "Bring it to the floor and vote on it, baby".

But, that ain't gonna happen, because when this bill screws the pooch, the Democrats need someone to point the finger at. They don't have the balls to take it all on their own.

The president "prefers the public option," Gibbs said. "However, he said what's most important is choice and competition."

If the President thinks that choice and competition is what's most important, why aren't democrats even considering allowing purchasing insurance across state-lines?

....So Republicans aren't trying to block the Health Care bill?

Yes. Granted, not directly through votes because the Democrats can pass it without them for the most part. But through trying to get voters to rise up and become against it. That said, that's a rather narrow summarized question from Scorp's post. I don't have issue with Obama saying republicans are trying to block THE health care bill. However, I have issue with this:

"There are those in the Republican party who think the best thing to do is just to kill reform. That that will be good politics."

Note, to "kill reform", not kill THIS reform.

So I'll ask you. Do you think the President is highlighting a majority opinion held by Republicans, that they want to kill REFORM in general? Or do you think he's attempting to use an extreme minority in an attempt to make it appear to be the majority reason why people are opposed to this bill? Do you agree with his implication that the prime force of this is due to Republicans wanting to kill REFORM in general?

You can dodge the issue all you want -- fact of the matter is the GOP cannot stop the bill, only the Dems can, and any blame laid on the GOP for its failure is nothing but partisan hackery.

You're right they can't stop it if the dems choose the budget reconcilliation process. However if they try the normal route the dems simply do not have enough dems to defeat a filabuster. Johnson isn't reliable because of his health situation. Lieberman is an independent who can't be counted on. Most I see them getting is 59 if all the dems and Sanders votes their way.

I thought the Dems had the majority. Don't bills pass on a simple majority vote?

Not in the case of a filabuster if the republicans decide to use that option. And if they do there is no guarantee that the democrats would have enough votes to override it. Being that there are 2 independents in the senate the dems don't have the 60 vote required.

This is when we're going to solve all the health care problems in this country? When half the people are freaking out about how much money we've been spending on wars and bailouts?

And we're not going to solve the cost problem illegal of immigrants using so much of the health care budget first? And where going to bring up that seniors are using too much of our money at the very end.

How can any of this be the fault of the republicans?

then, use reconciliation

the prez blames too much, he appears whiny, opposite of a leader

he's blamed doctors, insurance co's, bush, cable news, rush, town hall attendees, the cambridge police, congress for not getting things done, congress for not including his "favorite" revenue means (the taxing of cadillac benefit plans, ala john mccain), the rich...

the prez blames too much

leaders get things done

obama makes excuses

This is when we're going to solve all the health care problems in this country?
Of course not.
That it will not lays the groundwork for the NEXT 'reform' bill, that will bring even MORE government control/presence/involvement/providence in the health care industry.
This is, of course, on purpose.

When half the people are freaking out about how much money we've been spending on wars and bailouts?
When -Dems- run huge deficits for -their- pet projects, its OK.
Just ask them -- they wont disagree with you.

Are the Republicans filibustering?

Too early to tell. Until a bill comes out of committee there's nothing to filabuster. We'll know what they do when the bill comes out of the committee

Well if it's too early to tell, what is Obama bitching about?

Well I don't know maybe someone like Jim Demint saying that if they don't kill reform that it will hurt republican chances in 2010. That its been made political. Really I don't know where he gets the idea they want to kill reform.
:thinking

That's EASY!
The Obama wants to repeat the "The GOP is holding this up" lie as often as possible, so that if/when it does fail, the public will (wrongly) blame the GOP, and not the Dems.

Thanks for nobody quoting this middle paragraph. What a disgrace!:doh

What was there to talk about? The House oversight committee did a study that showed we spent 8 million dollars to find 8 illegal immigrants that abused medicaid. There's not secret brotherhood of illegal immigrants conspiring to steal health care funds. Most illegals try to keep a low profile. As for seniors who is saying we spend too much on seniors? Do you have numbers on how much money illegals take in health care?

My spelling before coffee!

I really don't believe anything anybody says about costs of anything.

All I'm saying is the president is nuts thinking this is the republicans fault. He's just incredibly bad at explaining things and of meeting people half way.
