"Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) leaders are using the threat of a law suit to silence and intimidate critics, according to current and former members of the liberal activist group.

In a letter dated June 11 an attorney for ACORN advised top whistleblowers that their unauthorized use of the organization’s name could make them liable for monetary damages and injunctive relief.
ACORN executives have also changed their organization’s name, which was tarnished by investigations in at least 14 states of allegations of voter registration fraud during the 2008 presidential campaign, and charges by current and former members of financial mismanagement and misrepresentation.
The new name will let ACORN leaders continue their operations without worrying about prior bad publicity, according to Marcel Reid of ACORN 8, a group of present and former members.
“We’ve known for many months now that the name ACORN is going to be retired,” Reid said. “The name has been so damaged to the point where the leadership knows it simply can’t go on as it has with the ACORN label out front and center, especially after all of the reporting.”

"Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke, embezzled almost $1 million from the organization in 1999 and 2000, while he was employed as the organization’s chief financial officer with the CCI affiliate. For almost a decade Wade Rathke and other staff members concealed the embezzlement from ACORN’s board of trustees, according to the criminal complaint ACORN 8 members filed against the organization"

“ACORN has to be decapitated,” Reid said. “The senior staff and current national board should be dismantled. The only way to have reform is for the current leadership to be removed completely. We also need a forensic audit.”

Then what's his excuse? An organization which receives Federal tax dollars is caught ON CAMERA offering to facilitate a child prostitution ring and he says it's a "non-story"? What kind of messed up crap is that!?

I guess exploiting minors is okay only if Obama is affiliated with the organization in question. Hazlnut and Jackalope are sick individuals. If they aren't sick, then they're evil. No other explanation.

1) Are all people of category X immoral hypocrits because their representatives are? That's what Oftencold says.

2) What percentage of corrupt officials is required for ACORN to be declared corrupt? ACORN has over 400,000 members and many Republicans are still grasping at straws trying to come up with articles on them. On the other hand, the number of Republican Senators and Congressman are far fewer, yet there are probably just as many articles on the corruption of them.

ACORN has been charged for voter registration fraud something like 20 times, has charges pending in 14 states, had 50 employees plead guilty, and 30 have been convicted.

Now we have videotape of workers breaking over a dozen laws in 2 different offices, including supporting child prostitution...

But your right... How could anyone believe ACORN is corrupt without an "authorized investigation".

I understand, but apparently it takes much more than a reasonable amount of proof to convince liberals than any of their "good ideas" are flawed, especially the embodiment of the roots of their current administration's leader. Let us hope overwhelming proof will suffice.

Remember how the 2000 election was "fixed"? and the 2004? And that was all over, honestly, unfounded claims. Obviously the liberals have a little more pull than anyone else (including the american population).

I'm not ready to tar the entire ACORN organization as a promoter of sex slavery, but at the very least they need to seriously change the way they train and supervise their people.

This assumes they aren't trained to do exactly the sort of 'advising' they did; given the history of this outfit, it's highly unlikely they were just acting on their own. They were fired for getting caught. they will also get a deal to keep their mouths shut re others in the group, and will be taken care of later, after the media spotlight is off; they'll be back in the same business.
