Rep. Jenkins: GOP looking for "great white hope"

but surely you can't overlook the fact that some people do disagree with him simply becasue he is black, or his middle name is hussein?

and surely you can't believe that right wing talk radio/tv hosts don't use the word "hussein" as a code word for "arab"
?

Hey!

How dare you say such a thing without proof!

I want proof!

There were people that disagreed with Bush because he is white, too.

Actually, I think people use, "Hussein", as a code word for, "Muslim".

Well, you would be wrong because, according to the majority of posters in this thread, code language does not exist in politics.

I think that arguments that include phrases like "a lot of people" or "socially acceptable racism" are just too subjective to give any credit. Look how little Limt had to backpedal out of his arguments because he couldn't substantiate them...first it was people that call him those names are definitely racists because they're crazy. Then it was only crazy people who call him those names are racist. Then it was crazy racists who call him those names are crazy racists. But never able to give a source or a number of these supposed crazy racists.

Then it became "it's all just a judgment call, I'm not doing your homework, the dog must've eaten mine which is why I can't show the calculations for my math homework blah blah blah".

All so much blather and so little substance. But that's what happens when you take a subjective view of a nebulous group that may or may not exist and start trying to apply undocumented concepts to prove your unsubstantiated opinion.

Don't get me wrong, Jall. I agree that you its a stretch to argue that all or even most of the people shouting those type of things are "racist". However, I don't think that you can discount the fact that there are many people in that crowd who may not feel comfortable yelling the "N" word, but nevertheless are thinking it when they are yelling things that are considered more "socially acceptable". I guess that's where I disagree with you. I don't think the vast majority of "racists" are comfortable being overt about it.

I disagree. I think people who used "Hussein" did so because they had nothing else in their arsenal. I doubt most of them really believe that Obama is Muslim.

not most, some. and i'm not sure ignorant is the same as racist either. and the more people feel inadequate, the more they search for someone to be "better than"........it's our nature.

Must come as quite a shock to be asked to provide evidence for your claims :2wave:

Unbelievable.

Don't worry, you're right. Of course code language doesn't "exist" in politics.

Its all just a fantasy to further my own personal agenda to promote the existence of code language.

:rofl

There's plenty in the arsenal, now...:rofl

I wouldn't say "plenty", but there is certainly more argument that can be made.
However, there was argument before, if people were intelligent enough to articulate it. Some were able to.....others simply resorted to parroting their favorite drug addict talk show host because they couldn't articulate a credible argument. That's all I'm sayin.

Well to be fair, legitimate criticism of Obama was kinda quashed from the onset because the whole "you don't like him because of his skin color" was bandied about with no remorse or shame during the election.

I'm sure there are people who dislike Obama because of his race, hardly worth a mention tho. I do not think they make a significant group
just because people don't admit to that doesn't mean that's not how they think. i have no idea what the numbers are, but i believe they ARE worth mentioning. we're not as evolved as we like to believe, imho.

Do you really think so? I remember that being a very very minor element in the election, coming only from the extremes...on the other side were the whole Rev.Wright/crazy Christian/crazy Muslim/Not American crowd.

For the most part, I thought both sides took a pretty credible stance away from this type of thing during the election.

lol......no proof available. i might mention the ugly racist crap that floated around during the elections, some of it perpetrated by POLITICIANS........;-) watermelon and fried chicken, anyone?

Why give them more airtime than they deserve? Ignore them.

Racism will always exist. Never will it be eliminated

I live in the DEEP south. We have a black police chief and a black mayor and several black city council reps. My community is 70% white. I think America is MUCH less racist than most of us realize.

Seriously, you can't get much deeper south than where I live. Frankly, it gives me hope.

Most of which, from what I saw, was floated by HILARY FANS.

Well Reverend Wright was a bat**** crazy loon and he was a racist of the highest order. Just because he shielded his racism behind a pulpit he isn't excused for his racism. And for Obama to sit in the church of a pastor like that for 20 years makes him suspect in my mind too.

And the race thing was "minor" when the race card was being played openly by the candidate himself. He all but said that disagreements with him were because he was black. And he all but called Pennsylvannia a bunch of gun totin' Jesus freak rednecks. Because he hid it behind a softer rhetoric does not excuse that he stated it anyway.

The bat****crazy loon Rev Wright crowd is absolutely no different than the "You hate Obama only because he is black" crowd. There is no difference between the two, other than political idealogy.

I actually think they share a common ideology, as well...blacks are victims, conservatives are satan...the government should do more.

I see them as having pretty much the same worthless race baiting idealogy.

That's exactly what I'm saying. They are at separate ends of the political spectrum but pretty much exactly the same.

But I think you misinterpreted what I'm saying....

I'm saying that those who try to argue the whole Rev Wright is a crazy*** bat against Obama are no different than those on the other end of the spectrum who try to argue that anyone who opposes Obama is a racist.
The two groups...although at completely opposite ends of the spectrum...are pretty much the same.

I think tha you are correct that for the most part both sides were fairly good. The Palin did seem to attract an element of rally goers that were from the much more crazy planet than any that McCain brought out. It also seems as if the real crazies either got more vocal or came out of the closset after Joe the Non Plumber leaked onto the scene.
