Fla. students' shirts: 'Islam is of the Devil'

If you're not a Muslim and you've never tried to enter a mosque, give it shot and see how much luck you have with that.

What are you talking about?

Mosques are extremley friendly.
Heck i just came back from prayers and my partner came with me. My non muslim boyfriend and would you look at that? He wasn't stoned, stabbed or bombed :doh

And as for the shirt, no biggie. Hardly breaks anyones heart.

I have no problems with the shirts as long as others are allowed to say things like, "Fundamentalist Christians are just like Fundamentalist Islamics, only Dumber."

You must really hate Muslims, because the think everyone else is an infidel.

Funny how the Muslim's who post here don't seem to think that.

We couldn't use anecdotal cases as evidence of a general policy trend, but reliable polling that incorporates large data sets indicates that there's far more Islamic opposition to U.S. governmental and military policy then to some abstract conception of "values."

And I don't see how this couldn't constitute a First Amendment violation, even with public school students' more limited constitutional rights and liberties.

They did something to his shirt? Like ripping it off and anointing his manly flesh with sacred emoliants?

The beasts!

pssst, Laila -- I'm having to whisper this because I don't want anybody else to notice, but it looks like you have a few cotton fibres stuck between your teeth.

These seem to be all well settled issues.

The church and its congregants are free to believe and wear pretty much w/e they like.
Schools have an obligation (and necessary power) to prevent disruptions to the learning environment.

The pastor was trying to be an attention whore.

meh who cares?

Visit a mosque and you'll see. You'll be introduced to your infidel'ness.

Visit a Mosque and let us know how it goes.
If you die ... well then you won't have to report back k?

if a muslim woman cannot wear her headscarf in court, why is it okay for student in a public to wear t-shirts disparaging islam?

Court isn't a public school, for one thing. There are substantially different rules for court than there are for a public school, not least of which is that the judge in a court proceeding has EVERY RIGHT to tell an individual in the court room to change/remove clothing.

Secondly, it's been made abundantly clear, on the other thread, that there is a significant difference between a head scarf (hijab), and a full veil (nijab). One is religious. The other isn't.

And, there are several reasons that a full veil isn't appropriate for court, all of which have been discussed, ON THAT THREAD, in detail. Do we need to cover them for you, again, or are you being intentionally obtuse?

This is what she cannot wear to court and there is a REASON she can't.

The reason should be obvious to everybody.

no, court is not a public school. and yes, the rules are different. but the rules of this particular school seem to maintain that these shirts are not acceptable. why is it that SOME rules should be followed, and others disregarded? i'm certainly NOT being obtuse, but rules are rules, yes?

unless, of course, one doesn't agree with them.

btw, i was not addressing the veil thread, merely making a comparison.

It really doesnt...

If someone was not allowed to wear a hijab to a court but someone can wear a shirt that insults another religion i'd find something wrong with that.

Dunno about US Schools but over here we have uniforms until we are about 16 so such things never ever come up anyway and if someone did break the rules. Suspension.
