Pleading for privacy, the White House said Obama would have no
public events while vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard with his
family and close friends.
Aides also asked that the journalists also not take pictures of the Obamas’ two young daughters, age 8 and 11, when they aren’t with the president.
“He wants you to relax and have a good time. Take some walks on
the beaches. Nobody’s looking to make any news,” spokesman Bill
Burton told reporters flying with the Obamas from Washington to
Massachusetts.
The White House said there is no formal schedule while the
Obamas are on the island, although the president will receive a
daily briefing in person from a National Security Council official.

He will receive an economic briefing through memos, and the
secluded 28-acre private estate has a secure line to the White
House if a situation develops.

Work doesn’t stop while the president is on vacation. Senior
adviser Valerie Jarrett, a close friend and counselor to the
president, joined the flight aboard Air Force One. Other midlevel
aides were on the island to assist the president if needed, a
reminder the presidency does not allow for complete breaks from the job.
Do I read hypocracy here? Vacations are now okay in the middle of a war, and the President is the President 24/7?

Did Obama ever say Presidents should not vacation?

how about we withhold judgement on vacations until we see if obama even begins to come close to bush's record?

as i recall.......vacations were never the issue....it was the number and length of those vacations.

politics as usual IS NOT a great thing. btw, saw inglourious basterds, !!!!!! ;-)

politics as usual means that our system is stabile. A system that can change with a single election is not what the founding fathers had in mind.

The movie was great, not Pulp fiction great but still one of the best main stream movies in a long while

i don't want politics as usual.

It was front page news everytime Bush went to Crawford. I don't remember him being in the cone of privacy.

This smacks of elitism. What's next? An American version of The Eagle's Nest?

It's front page now that he is going on vacation. Asking for privacy for his family is not a negative. I can respect him for it in fact.

He new what he was getting into when he ran for the job, so I have no sympathy for him if he doesn't get as much special time as he would like.

I have stated before, and will again, that I feel that all politicians, even the president, even republicans, should have a certain right to privacy.

If the guy farted in the wrong direction, the righties would throw a fit. It's getting ridiculous guys. Why don't you try and make your side look a bit more intelligent and cut this nonsense out?

When they're asleep, sure. Other than that, they're fair game.

Hey, man, I'm showing PBO the same respect, consideration and courtesy that you cats showed Bush.

I think that attitude discourages good people from seeking public office, and we are left with just those who put power over things like family. Not a comfortable thought to me.

Yeah, cuz you know exactly what we on this board personally "showed Bush." Please, do a search here and let me know when you find me saying Bush doesn't deserve privacy on his vacations.

Well, if we were talking about anyone other than the leader of the free world, I would agree.

You're right, you weren't here then. Based on your record though, if you had been here no doubt you would have **** a cow over Crawford.

$50,000 per week is what Obammy is paying for this vacation. A r-e-e-e-e-a-l healthy message to send to millions of Americans out of work. This traitor is doomed. Heck, Goldwater dead could beat this bum in three years.

So you approved of the way people treated Bush in regards to his vacation time?

Or you disaproved of it and thought it was wrong to do, but now feel that two wrongs make a right and its okay for you to do wrong since the other side did it.

Just trying to get your feeling on the matter.

1. What does that have to do with Obama?
2. Obama's vacation is also on the front page. In case you missed it.

What smacks of "elitism"?
