Ridge accuses Bush White House of political use of terror alert system

Can you give a full quote? All the quotes the article contains that talk about being pressured come from the publisher's summary rather than from Ridge

No one can give a full quote until the book comes out. The link on page 1 of this thread gives a pretty clear indication of what Ridge is alleging & I haven't heard him deny it so........You'll just have to wait for the book to come out for it's full text.

Prediction:

No matter what Ridge's full words happen to be, some members here will prtend his words mean what they want them to mean.

Ridge disagrees with you. He said he was "Pressed" to do it & that, my friend is a clear violation of the Hatch Act.
If anyone sounds retarded here, it is you trying to torture English & logic.

Accept he never said he was pressed. When you're going to say something you need to use his actual words. Especially if you're going to put it in quotes.

That's complete bull**** and you know it. I've shown you time and time again how Ridge has denied it. You refuse to admit it because it completely demolishes the point you're struggling to hold on to.

If you don't have any quotes from Ridge, are you basing your entire argument on the publishers summary? If not, what are you basing it on?

Furthermore, isn't this a denial by ridge?

"Let me make it very clear. I was never directed to do so no matter how many analysts, pundits or critics say so."

Never DIRECTED (ordered) but he was "Pressed" which is a felony. I'm done. You guys are terrible debaters. You may as well speak swahili.

Ungawa...Mambasa

Ok, how about a bet? If there is a trial or if Ridge believes there was wrongdoing about this in the next two years I'll put on whatever signature or avatar you'd like.

That smacks of the issues the birfers had with Hawaii's first statement on Obama' birth certificate. If he wasn't denying the claims of the pundits, why would he have said that at all?

Also, you didn't answer the rest of my post

Damn, you're a terrible debater

That isn't a violation of the Hatch act because there's no evidence that the pressure was politically motivated.

Trial? There won't even be an investigation.

You're on. (same offer on this side)

I've got to start using your tactics in debate. (I'll just interpret whatever your words are as meaning what I want them too)

If anything at all he was given advice in the face of a credible threat. He disagreed with the threat and didn't raise the level. That is not pressure. If his job was threatened at any time you may have a point. He wasn't.

I agree with you that Bush/Cheney & their cohorts belong in prison. We both are evidently very angry at the way our country was used by a bunch of Neocon cowards who never saw combat themselves, but were quite happy to send our kids off to die in wars for profit.
As far as your specific hatred of Bush & Cheney are concerned, I totally agree & whether they get a life sentence or a death sentence, they will eventually get what they deserve.

We both just have to have patience as these things take a bit of time.

Hang in there!

You're damned right!!

Ridge felt pressured to use his agency for crass, political purpose & I therefore agree with you that a clear violation of the Hatch Act was committed by Bush's men.

Not according to Ridge:

WASHINGTON — Former Homeland Security secretary Tom Ridge, speaking for the first time about accusations made in his new book, says he did not mean to suggest that other top Bush administration officials were playing politics with the nation's security before the 2004 presidential election.

...

Now, Ridge says he did not mean to suggest he was pressured to raise the threat level, and he is not accusing anyone of trying to boost Bush in the polls. "I was never pressured," Ridge said.

I can't wait to see what RoC has you put in your sig line.

Well...I guess we'll all have to wait for his book.

First his publisher claims Ridge said he felt pressured enough to quit the government.
Now Ridge says that wasn't so???

We'll all just have to wait for the dust to settle but...something smells fishy about this whole story.

Either:
1. Ridge was lying in the book to help sales
or
2. His publisher was lying to sell books
or
3. Ridge is lying now. (realizing the gravity of his charges)

Who knows?????

Tough to reconcile these 2 stories:

Ridge accuses Bush White House of political use of terror alert system - National Politics Blog - Political Intelligence - Boston.com

In his new book, the first Homeland Security chief, Tom Ridge, accuses top aides to President George W. Bush of pressing him to raise the terror alert level to influence the 2004 presidential election.
Ridge writes that there was a "vigorous, some might say dramatic, discussion" about raising the threat level. He says his aides told the White House that doing so would politicize national security.

"I believe our strong interventions had pulled the 'go-up' advocates back from the brink," Ridge writes. "But I consider the episode to be not only a dramatic moment in Washington's recent history, but another illustration of the intersection of politics, fear, credibility and security."

"After that episode, I knew I had to follow through with my plans to leave the federal government for the private sector," Ridge, who resigned soon after the election where Bush defeated Democrat John F. Kerry, writes in "The Test of Our Times: America Under Siege ... And How We Can Be Safe Again."

Then This:

Ridge backpedals on pressure to raise terror alert level - USATODAY.com
"I'm not second-guessing my colleagues," Ridge said in an interview about The Test of Our Times, which comes out Tuesday and recounts his experiences as head of the nation's homeland security efforts in the first several years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Sounds to me like the first statement was true & now he's trying to weasel out of it with a non-denial...denial..

So I guess we're left with this:

Like almost all other members of the Bush regime, Ridge is a liar. The only remaining question is: Was he lying then?..... or is he lying now??

(my money is on the "NOW" answer)

If he wasn't lying in the first place, why would be feel the need to crawfish on his story, now? People who believe what they say, usually don't change their story.

So you agree that, a former high ranking member of the Bush Regime.....Ridge is a liar & you opt for him lying THEN as opposed to Now....Right?

Can you name any Bush regime member who has always told the truth? (I can't)

Let's take Ridge as an example:

You yourself just admitted that he's a liar, right?
(we all know he's a liar, the only question is when he was lying & when he was telling the truth)

keep going......You're doing fine!

( just a suggestion: Grab Bush's personnel files & go down the list.....They all are/were liars including the top two liars....GW ("You're doing a great job Brownie")Bush .......& Dick ("I wasn't drunk when I blasted my friend in the face with a shotgun") Cheney
