GM raises production as "clunker" sales rise - Yahoo! News

The No.1 U.S. carmaker said it would build 60,000 more vehicles than planned for the third and fourth quarters by increasing overtime, adding shifts at several North American assembly plants.

The move will bring about 1,350 hourly workers in the United States and Canada back to assembly lines, GM said.

I believe that is 1350 GM workers, and does not count suppliers. I work for a tier 1 supplier, and got my call today telling me to come back to work Monday finally.

This is NOT the worst news of the day.

Obviously good news for the laid off workers.

HOWEVER

How much has really changed in the underlying economics of the auto industry? Is this production increase sustainable, or will production have to slow again in coming months?

While this is good news for GM and its workers today, I am far from certain it is a first step on a path to automotive prosperity.

Are you in a union?

No I am not. I don't have data to back this up, but I believe that most suppliers are nonunion. UAW did try and unionize us, but we turned them down twice. It got a little unpleasant for awhile during that process.

To an extent, right now is a waiting game. Before the auto industry can truly recover, the economy has to recover, and that is just going to take time. What this does is take some of that time and makes it productive. I don't think this is going to hasten or slow down a recovery, it will just make the time until a real recovery a lot less painful for a fair number of people.

How long will this artificial spurt last after the government crawfishes on the C4C dough?

Thank you for the answer and the info.

Good luck with the return to work. Hang in there.

Right now, for you, it's a recovery....paycheck in hand is a recovery pretty much by definition. Having been unemployed myself a time or two....I know what getting a paycheck again feels like. So don't let anything I've said take away from that bit of good feeling--Lord knows you have it coming.

Just keep a weather eye open for when that might change again. (you know, that whole forewarned forearmed bit).

We were told a month is almost guaranteed, anything beyond that is a bonus.

What are ya'll going to do when all those repos start coming in?

Untill the Dealers realize that the B.O. Administration isn't capable of paying them off.

OP by Redress thanked by Ethereal, Joe1991, RightinNYC

The point is missed. It will remain missed after me pointing to it.

There are 3 choices.
1. GM makes such great cars that they become the main if not only demand of cash for clunkers traders. (Then how did GM go bankrupt?)
2. The OP is another bogus propaganda of Obama worshippers.
3. Yahoo news does not belong to BN but is approved when it is liked by RightinNYC and Co.

yahoo answer:

GM is not a private company anymore, it is a government corporation (google ''fascism''). Reality has no bearing on its actions. Lies coming out from it are granted to be not only lies, but also most absurd lies.

Congratulations, that was one of the silliest posts I have seen in awhile. I especially like the "3 choices", which are unrelated and untrue. Just for the hell of it, I will actually look at your 3 choices...this wont take long.

1: why is it not possible that GM becomes more receptive to the marketplace and succeeds? Why do they have to build the best? And how would they do all that in the time CARS runs? Your choice is totally nonsensical.

2: You are denying that GM is calling workers back to work? I sources my claim that they are, can you source that they are not. If they are calling workers back, the OP is just a statement of fact, and some slightly good news. Do you always do this overblown hysterics routine?

3: Yahoo is carrying a Reuters news story, same as they carry AP news stories. That fact is mentioned in the OP. Paying attention will keep you from looking so totally stupid in the future.

It is all possible. It is all good. How does GM become more receptive all over suddenly, - new models? What is that? How does Ford fall all way behind? What % of the trade was GM? Have you noticed my promise that you were going to miss the point? What % of the trade was GM? What % of the trade was GM? What % of the trade was GM? Were those new models? Were those new models? Were those new models? Or the same models condemned to be bad by Obama? Or the same models condemned to be bad by Obama? Or the same models condemned to be bad by Obama?

Point to me where GM is calling workers back to work in you OP. Point to me where I ever deny GM is calling 1350 workers back to work in my post.

3: Yahoo is carrying a Reuters news story, same as they carry AP news stories. That fact is mentioned in the OP.

Yet, you have posted only Yahoo link. Point to me the post with the link to Reuters or AP .

Paying attention will keep you from looking so totally stupid in the future. .

I can pay whatever, it does not change the fact that Obama worshipers will call me so totally stupid, just because of the fact that I don’t worship Obama.

Actually, it has nothing to do with what you believe, and everything to do with the stupidity of your post. If I really wanted to insult you personally, I would call you a Birther, but I don't think any one smart enough to post on a message board is dumb enough to believe that Obama has not proved he was born in the US.

I would love to see the figures for how much more debt has been taken on by the American people in a down economy due to this faux stimulus.
