Man arrested in attack on Mayor Barrett

Man arrested in attack on Mayor Barrett - JSOnline

It started with an urgent plea for help late Saturday night as he walked to his car after a State Fair outing with his family.

And it ended with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett lying in a pool of blood with a broken hand after he rushed to confront a pipe-wielding suspect officials described as a "vicious thug."

By Sunday evening, the suspect was in custody, Barrett was recuperating at a hospital, and his heroics were being recounted on national cable and network news shows.

Barrett, first elected in 2004 and re-elected last year, was struck on the head and torso with the pipe and broke his hand, presumably when he punched the man. As he rested Sunday at Froedtert Hospital, where doctors stitched up cuts on his head and lip, authorities and witnesses explained what happened.

 look a democrat with balls! (j/K :2razz:)

Seriously, good job to this mayor. Now this seems like a man of honor. We need more people like him in office... Well, in this world at least. ;)

In his personal life I'm sure he's a hero, but I wouldn't celebrate someone that supports making the MPS school board an appointed office not accountable to its constituents.

It's one thing to disagree with the particulars of politics--that's what healthy democracies need. But there should be no quibbling about a man who risks life and limb to help someone in need. That is the sort of person who should be in public office.

I'd rather judge whether or not someone should be in office based on how they act when they are in office than their personal lives.

And there isn't healthy democracy in removing the accountability of officials to their constituents by making those offices appointed. The only reason that Barrett is doing that is because he is interested in seriously defunding and/or dismantling the MPS system, which, as shown in the past when the school board entertained the idea last time, elected officials will never do.
