French pool bans 'burkini' swim

You know, considering that french men routinely swim in speedos, I can't imagine any French facility banning this kind of swim suit. If there is anything in poorer taste than an old frenchman in a speedo, I don't know what that would be.

when you immigrate to a country you accept the customs of this country.

In France, men are equal to women and people are free. Therefore, bans on burqas and burkini (which symbolize oppression of women and submission to traditions) are justified.

There is another custom that says that people can't walk naked in the street, or that you can't swim naked in public swiming pools. Same principle.

Do they ban nun habits too?

Is it freedom if you aren't allowed to choose your own clothing? Just curious.

You keep saying the word freedom. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Old Italian men in speedos, because now one adds the enviromental damage of the oil spill.

I really don't see what the problem is.

It doesn't show enough. :2razz:

men walking on water because they dont want to get their frock wet.

lol you're right, it's quite paradoxical to advocate freedom by banning something

But what? We both know that in many cases, they are obliged to wear these things. So
- if there is no ban, those who are forced to wear burqas, burkinis...keep on wearing them, which is a bad thing
- if there is a ban, those who were forced to wear them are "free", which is a good thing, but those who had freely chosen to wear them are "humiliated", which is a bad thing

It is wrong and I have never understood while here is the USA we have such strict codes about public swimming pools because not everyone wishes to wear swimsuits with all their bits hanging out:(

While I may wear a bathing suit? I have no problem with folks jumpining into my pool or hot tub with what some would consider "street" clothes. Some women do not feel comfy in the bathing suits and like to wear shorts and a tank top or whatever. Why is it ok for males to wear those baggy long trunks but women are suppose to wear certain things. I do not understand this mindset. I have a female friend who goes to lake and beach with me sometimes and she wears mens long swimming trunks and a t-shirt because that is what she feels comfy wearing. I do not see a problem with this.

Also one time we went to waterpark and the workers there tried to give us a problem over her wearing same thing that men would wear. Needless to say we ended up getting into that waterpark and had a wonderful time! :)

France is almost as embarrassing to the world as California.

Dear god. What ****ing logic is there behind such a move? Cleaner pools? Bull****ing ****. The burkini is made of swimsuit material, iirc. The only other argument I've heard is that France is trying to "liberate" Muslim women by dictating what they can and cannot wear. How anyone could even attempt to defend such an asinine line of reasoning is beyond me.

Welcome to Sarkoland !! you had your Bush, we have our Sarkozy :doh

I lived in Sicily for four years, every Italian man I met thought of one thing only and only of one thing, wetting his frock.

I wonder if orthodox jewish ladies have to remove their sheitl before using the pool?
The driving force behind a woman covering her head is modesty. In Numbers 5 (5.18) and Isaiah 3 (3.16-17) references to uncovering a woman's head are related to instances of shame or humiliation; it was a punishment for adultery.

Apart from these references, it is in the Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chayim 75) where it is laid out that married women should cover their heads.

I agreed with the ban on the Burka, but this? Really? And the fact that "Burkinis" even exist makes me cringe. But I don't see why they should be banned.

I think it's really dumb. What's the point other than to discriminate against Muslims? If a swimsuit is designed as a one piece with a hood, why should that be banned? It's not like they're wearing cloths in there, it's a designed swimsuit. Who the **** cares? Why the **** is it anyone's business? Jesus, people need to start learning to mind their own damned business.

Public pool, public rules.

If she doesn't like it she can swim at her house.

BAN IT!

He is clearly oppressed.
I mean look at him, he covers his legs and chest. How dare he?!

Well if all there wives beat the swimmers and force them before they go out to competitions to wear them in the name of an interpretation of Islam that isn't actually theoretically Islam itself, then yeah, friggin ban them.

Id respect your decision more if your stance was purely Democratic, yet something tells me your stance is based purely in favor of your own religion.

And you cannot prove every person who wears that garment gets beaten.
I know many friends who are single and wear it. What husband is forcing them?

Burqa has nothing to do with Islam.
It has no basis on my religion or faith. It is culture and a practice that pre dates Islam and has been incoporated and absorbed into Islamic culture at a later date.
The originals one was designed to keep sand from eyes.

My stance is very simple.
Do not ban things you do not agree with, it is counter productive and it will give the state too much power.

What is next?
My hijab?
Crosses?
Turbans?
Kippas?
Books? ...
How about stopping people coming into this country because of their view? ...

And when have i ever changed my views in favour of Islam?
