Georgia Democrat yells at local doctor over health care

When he's standing in front of me, what I personally want should be the only thing on his mind. First, last, and every thought in between.

You are not that special, no one other than a billionaire donor is that special. When you are just a regular guy you join a faceless crowd called a constituency and however you feel is always weighed against everyone else with a gripe.

So Congress only represents the rich? Funny, that's not what the Constitution says.

Of course they represent the rich, where have you been? Anytime they fail to favor the rich over the general populace there is a horde of politicians and a legion of people who come out yelling "socialism" you ought to know, you are one of them.

And when they favor the entitlement class over every other person in the country, the common folk ban together and raise hell, as we've been witnessing. That's why this is the greatest country on Earth.

OBC is a scam, the people know and we're not gonna take it.

By entitlement class you mean poor people right? and by common folk you mean you mean "real Americans", right?

No, but you know that certain individuals have greater pull with the leaders of the country. If you gather enough "little guys" together and come together with a coherent message and a blueprint for impact, then the leaders will pay a lot more attention to 'the every day voter'. That is why populism, whether from the right, left, or center, is what becomes a driving force in American politics.

I'm assuming you already knew that, but that is reality of American politics and political organizations.

It was a townhall meeting sponsored by some one other than the rep, and on a topic other than health care.

Sure, but the man should expect the 'unexpected'-which is entirely expected at town hall meetings. While the attendee was passionate and already at odds with the politician, you could also hardly say that this was a horrible outburst at a public gathering space.

Indeed it is nice that they promoted the other hall meeting, but let's not presume that deviations from the agenda are somehow terrible.

So, let the obvious speak for itself: the politician lost his cool-not horribly, but he did. The person asking the question (who apparently gave a speech-which can be dull and counter productive, but it seemed to have panned out well enough) was not the most modest person he could have been, but we have to be honest and say we have seen far worse at these townhall meetings.

No, I mean people who the second, third and fourth generation to live their whole lives on welfare. The folks who live off entitlements are, obviously, the entitlement class. Do you have a job?

At times it certainly feels that way.
Which is why when the not-so-rich get in a Congressman's face, I find myself willing to be very forgiving of the not-so-rich raconteurs. The rich have money; everyone else has votes. Every so often it pays to remind Congressmen which one trumps which.

I think you are missing that rep. Scott did in fact answer his question, spent 2 or 3 minutes talking about his position(which was nothing like the guy said his position was). Given that the topic was not healthcare, and that he had answered the question, when hounded it is possible and understandable that he got upset. Further, he also gave the questioner details on when to ask more questions. Vilifying Scott for being understandably upset is just partisan rhetoric.

Yeah, I think the news must have sliced up the video to make it more sensational. I take back my first post in this thread given that new information.

I watched the full video of the encounter, which runs about 7 minutes, of which about 2 minutes is spent with Scott lecturing the guy on why he was wrong, and the rest his being polite, or listening.

Ah the good old myth of the welfare Queen, ample reason to screw the working poor in the mind of every "real American".

As to the job. After working every day of my adult life building some of the finest houses anyone has ever lived in the bottom fell out of the building industry. These days I am struggling along scratching up small jobs for chicken feed. I knew years ago that the housing bubble would not last and had a pretty good bit put back in savings but it is all gone now.

That is why when I hear someone blame the recession on Obama all I can do is laugh. Carpenters and contractors saw the collapse of the housing bubble coming years ago but no one listens to us, the realtors and the banks said it would last forever. Many years ago I used to be able to afford a lousy HMO that always tried to talk me out of using them but that is all over now and it has been 7 years since I heard of any contractor (Florida) providing health insurance for their employees.

I am a working man and I know what it is like to work much too hard for too little pay and hearing people like you call us welfare queens as an excuse for turning your back with a clear conscience. Working people need an affordable means of providing health care for their families but you would deny them just to spite the "entitlement class". (BTW we all know what that is a code word for)
