Sotomayor sworn in as U.S. Supreme Court justice

Sotomayor, 55, won a Senate confirmation vote on Thursday amid intense conservative opposition. The tally was 68-31 in her favour, with unanimous Democratic support. Most Republican senators voted against her, but nine joined their Democratic colleagues.

I think there was too much hubbub about her ethnicity... but aside from that, I wish her well in her new position.

You wish her well, what's the point? She's unqualified, and a disgrace.

At the end of the day, it's just fun to watch the right wing cry.

Well done Ms. Sotomayor, good luck in your new job.

I love judging people off past comments. It makes me feel warm inside. Hell, John McCain is about to bomb Iran as we speak and Sotomayor is sketching plans to create a social and ethnic apartheid. ALLAH!

Good luck to her. I prefer to judge them based off their performance.

We'll get the last laugh come 2010 and 2012.

Yeah, because the far-right has done so much to make the GOP more relevant.
:roll::roll:

The negativity surrounding her nomination and confirmation was 50% partisan and 50% racist, IMO.

She's exceptionally qualified and anyone who doesn't know that she's a moderate, slightly left of center, has bought into the far-right partisan/racist talking points and avoided doing any objective research or reading up on her.

Lazy partisanship. Way to go!

BTW-- finally an actual breaking news story in the 'Breaking News' forum. It's an historic day for the court.

She's exceptionally qualified and anyone who doesn't know that she's not a moderate but a flaming Liberal, very left of center, has bought into the far-right partisan/racist talking points and avoided doing any objective research or reading up on her.

Corrected for truth

I find a very weird irony in that conservatives here call her a flaming liberal, when some on the left were upset that an actual liberal was not named. She did have the most experience of any Supreme Court Justice, and she was if anything too moderate in her 3000+ rulings. So what if she did not come walking in with an Annie Oakley six shooter at her hip. Good lord, people need to get a grip on reality. Because someone does not fit the cookie cutter role of what they want does not mean the person is unqualified.

Despite your objections to her jurisprudence (not that I think you actually know what you don't like about it), it's foolish to say she's unqualified.

Except for South Carolina's popular Senator most of the Republicans who voted for Soto M are those who are retiring. One glaring example is Martinez of Florida. So the opposition to Soto M was pretty much partisan.

Go, Sotomayor! Yeehaw!! :2wave:

And take Ginsberg, Kennedy, Stevens, and Souter with you (to Cuba, Venezuela, or any of the other Marxist dictatorships that welcome your twisted POV).

That has to be the most insightfull, inteligent, well thougt out and stated post I have ever read on this forum. Your entire village must be proud of you. I know that we all are. Keep up the fine work you will be rewarded soon.
ooops I forgot LOL !!!

The whole Marxist/Socialist talking point is really getting old. You need to ask Rush for a new one.

Summa cum laude from Princeton and law review editor at Yale Law school and a great rating from the ABA. She's as qualified as one can be. Now, I know that about 50% of her rulings will bother me and her comment regarding a 'wise Latina' was unspeakably stupid, but she is quite qualified.

As for the confirmation, ho hum. This was all much ado about nothing, she's a liberal Justice replacing a liberal justice and was always going to be confirmed.

I applaud Sotomayor's record and experience as well as her ability to be fair in court. Well done! Well done! She is a great addition to the court.

I honestly did not know. thanks....

She has ruled on some limitations(I think in foreign aide), but as best as we can tell, she is pro abortion rights. She really is much more centrist than most on the right think.
