ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Former Democratic Congressman William Jefferson was found guilty of 11 of 16 corruption charges today by a federal jury.

The jury of eight women and four men returned a guilty verdict following five days of deliberation.

In the 16-count indictment, Jefferson was charged with soliciting bribes and other crimes for a series of schemes in which he helped American businesses broker deals in West African in exchange for payments or financial considerations to companies controlled by members of his family, including his brother Mose, his wife, Andrea, their five daughters and a son-in-law.

This is a great day for us in New Orleans. I think I'll have a beer. ;)

1 down, 534 to go.

Wow, surprise surprise. Honestly, curious of who thought this wasn't the outcome that would happen.

Thank god this creep got what he had coming. I hope he rots right along with the rest of the crooks and criminals.

It's about time. Most people that I know around New Orleans thought he was guilty but that he might get off anyway (like Gov. Edwards did in his first trial). Those who said that the feds rarely lose a case like this turned out to be right.

Jefferson is interesting, but not atypical, in that he is a very charismatic [former] politician who couldn't keep his nose clean despite his political success. I've heard that even those who did not care for his politics were wowwed by his personality when they encountered him face to face. It looks now like all that charisma will be well-tested in prison!

"Bubba, meet Bill... Bill, Bubba!"

Louisiana politicians have a good history of getting out of tight jams, I thought he had a shot of getting out of this. I am not surprised so much as happy my feelings about the verdict were wrong.

About time, only hope this guy serves some decent amount of time.

I'm still stunned that OJ Simpson was acquitted. You never know.

I am thrilled with the verdict. He is a corrupt loser and deserved this conviction. His defense was pathetic. (Everybody does it.)

I have to admit that I'm a little surprised.

Anyone have the odds of him winning an election from his cell?
