NYC Sues Family Of Girl Burned On Playground Mat

They didn't sue the city because they were concerned about other kids getting hurt. They were sueing the city, because right after it happened, they saw dollar signs.

Actually, she had 3rd degree burns..

They had a fountain on one side of the park where kids run through, and this black mat that would get to 160 degrees not 10 feet away....

The mats need to go.

The fountain is the rub here. It's reasonble to expect that any child would (should) remove their shoes to play in the water. Though *I* as a PITA would be hunched over following my kid around to make sure he put his shoes back on (of course he has a few pairs of water shoes so his shoes never would have come off), but many people don't.

I don't think it's natural to assume those matts could burn someone's skin like that.

Is there a new rule against expressing an opinion on this forum, or is this just harrassment? If there's a new rule, I would appreciate you directing me to it, because I definitely missed it.

Do not state your opinion as a fact next time:

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out rubber gets extremely hot especially in direct sunlight.

3rd degree burn hot? And if it doesn't take a rocket scientist, then the city should have known that it was unsafe and not have put it into an area where flesh was guaranteed at some point to come in contact with it while hot.

No, i would never allow my children to run through any public place without shoes on, there are just to many things that could happen. Burned, cut, stabbed, gouged etc. I stand by the point of negligence not the cities fault in the least bit.

Not run around with shoes on? In a park? I still don't wear shoes in the park, why would I? It's fun to run around without shoes. People are fretting and worrying over everything. Hell, when I was a kid I always took my shoes off at the play ground. It's not unreasonable for children to remove their shoes when playing outside. "They could get burned, cut, stabbed, gouged, etc." Good grief! Why let your kids outside. They can fall down and get cut, they can get kidnapped, they could get sunburned, etc. Should just put them in a huge bubble and be done with it...nice and safe.

No wonder we're turning into France.

Yo, this black mat was the landing mat for the jungle gym and slides and swings.... Thats how absurd this is....

This is a legit and REAL personal injury case...

Kids slip out of flip flops very easily when playing. They also like to take them off. As uncool as these are, you'll want to have him play in sketchers, crocs or tevas.
