To the South Florida gay community, Jonathan Bleiweiss was a pioneering, openly gay Broward sheriff's deputy who fought discrimination within that agency earlier in his career.

But court documents released Tuesday portray Bleiweiss, 29, as a manipulative sex offender who preyed on illegal immigrants too scared to contact authorities. He would act like a jilted lover when the men would not return his calls or text messages, according to those records, based on victims' accounts.

Bleiweiss, arrested Monday, faces 14 charges, among them three counts of sexual battery by a person in authority, four counts of battery and one count of stalking. He's accused of intimidating at least eight men in his Oakland Park patrol district into performing sex acts with him during traffic stops.

"This is not an act that necessarily impacts the gay community," said Michael Rajner, a local gay rights activist who lives in Pompano Beach. "This is an act of an individual, not a community."

Troubling story. These illegals are being made to cross the border after they thought they already did. :mrgreen:

Who knows maybe this is a good deterrent and should be promoted as a warning in Mexico. "This could happen to you" etc.

That said, I hope this cop gets more than a slap on the ass for this.

That's quite a claim you've made there. I'd love to see it backed up by facts.

Symbolic of the community? In that case, I guess that pedophile priests are symbolic of that community too, right?
 
I love the whole argument that if a member of some group does something it reflects on the group as a whole. He's also white. Maybe this is a problem with white people. Or cops. Or balding guys. Talk about intellectual laziness. Embarrassing.

Actually, your comment says more about how the moment anyone suggests there are imperfections in the gay community one is immediately labeled a homophobe.

Let me just take you through a simple logical analysis of this statement.

What percentage of priests are pedophiles, in your opinion?

In order for pedophilia and priest to be linked to the degree that the priesthood is symbolic of pedophilia, the MAJORITY of priests would need to be pedophiles.

There are 400,000 Catholic priests, worldwide. Does EVIDENCE suggest that the majority of them are pedophiles? Does EVIDENCE suggest that even 10% of them (40,000) are pedophiles?

No. Of course it doesn't.

There have maybe, maybe been 400 priests involved in charges of pedophilia and child sexual abuse. That's .1% of all priests.

Not representative. Not even close.

Try using your brain for something other than a space holder.

My point was made in the first post. That such sexual immorality is symbolic of the community.
