The Long Island mom behind the wheel in a fiery wrong-way crash along a Westchester highway was drunk on vodka and had high levels of marijuana in her system -- a deadly mix that killed her and seven others, authorities said today.

The findings were part of a toxicology report conducted by the Westchester County Medical Examiner that was conducted on 36-year-old Diane Schuler in the wake of the deadly July 26 crash along the Taconic State Parkway in Briarcliff Manor, officials said.

Schuler's blood-alcohol level was a eye-popping .19 -- nearly 2½ times the legal limit of .08, according to a bombshell report.
TACONIC TRAGEDY DRIVER WAS DRUNK AND HIGH DURING ACCIDENT - New York Post

Hmmm.. high, drunk...

Why are these things cool again?

It's not that people think these things are "cool". That's complete bull****. Stupid people do stupid things. This idiot was on drugs and drunk and got into a car. Getting into the car was the only thing she did that night that led to this problem. Most people don't get into a car drunk, unless they are retarded. Most people don't get stoned out of their mind where they are ready to black out and get in their car, unless they are retarded. It is not the drugs and alcohal that led to this, it is her getting into a vehicle while on these items. Now we could go back and forth on "Well would she have gotten in the car and drove the wrong way if she wasn't bla bla bla" But that gets us nowhere. There are plenty of people who drink and don't do this. There are plenty of people who smoke and don't do this. So lets not demonize these items, and instead put the blame where it lays, on the woman for not being smart.

And in case you think i'm some doped out pot head, think again. I am a criminal justice major at Ole Miss, I have never done any drug that wasn't prescribed by my doctor, and I drink occasionally but never drive drunk.

This is the same type of crap people try and use to demonize video games, movies, literature, etc etc. Yes there is a difference in the fact that marijuana and alcohal can be mind altering and effect motor skills, but should we really outlaw things because the few idiots who screw up on them? The answer to that, is of course a resounding No.

Hell man, Ole Miss is the only University in the country that has a HUGE marijuana field on it. They have been doing research on weed for the past 30 years and still are doing research... it's either they can't find something wrong with it, or they are hording it for themselves and smoking it :D.

The only reason I am upset that this woman died is that she won't be alive to be charged for all the deaths that occurred in this accident. Jesus. What kind of person gets into a car drunk and stoned with her own son and nieces and nephews?

It's good that she's dead. It's just too bad she took others with her.

Ban em for all I care. The only reason they're useful is the fact that they can be taxed and allowing them is more cost-efficient than banning them. However, it's pretty obvious that the risks of alcohol and weed heavily outweigh the rewards (as with smoking). In the end, allowing them or banning them is a choice. Apparently banning alcohol didn't work with the 18th Amendment and it probably wouldn't work today.

The mother was an idiot and it's unfortunate that others had to die because of her mistakes. Although I am not happy for their deaths, the mother deserved what was coming to her. Since alcohol is legalized (and if/when weed is) it is up to the citizens to responsibly use what is available to them- similar to guns. Of course one could argue that an idiot with a gun is far more dangerous than an idiot with a bottle of alcohol, but that's for a different thread.

There's nothing really wrong with booze or pot, it's the mixture of these things and driving which is the problem.

Hmmmmmmmm.....last time I checked, marijuana is a banned substance, and it's illegal to drive a car while drunk.

So....can someone tell me how wonderfully effective prohibition is again? This thread doesn't seem to be conveying that message very well.

I also find disturbing that they are considering filling criminal charges against her husband because he did not stop his wife from getting behind the wheel.

I do not believe one person should ever be accountable for another persons actions, the only exception to this may be ones child but a spouse?

She could have smoke herb within the last month. She had to have drank the booze within the last few hours.

Yet you know who the real culprit in this is?

Inanimate liquids and Grass like substances. They have hatched their evil plan and we must stop them. They are forcing poor people to do these acts.

One that's probably in a very special section of hell right now. What baffles me just as much is the fact that she'd apparently pulled over on the side of the road and called her brother in law on her cell phone to say that she felt "weird". He told her that he'd be there soon and to stay where she was. Thirty minutes later, a bunch of people were no more.

I hadn't read those facts. Although with her impaired thinking, who knows why she didn't wait for the brother in law to show up. Do you know if the bro in law's children were in her car?
